Painting Plastics?
#23
Im going to use a torch to take out my stress marks. Im just going to be carful enough not to melt/burn the plastic. I used a torch to take off those warning stickers. Also a hair dryer will work to remove the stickers. I dont know if its hot enought to remove the white stress marks.

as for the painting, use auto paint from ppg, sherwin williams or others, and clear, bumpercovers are plastic and we've got a few junk ones that havn't cracked or anything (and we're pretty tuff on junk) it will probably crack if you bend it enough or roll the machine.

When we paint plastic we use an adhesive mixxed with the paint to make it stick. It is the same thing all body shops use to paint late model vehicles with plastic body panels.Go out to your mom's mini van or whatever and find a plastic panel and push on it,the paint does not crack. We also use a flex agent to let it bend with the plastic.Useually the paint will not be affected unless you actually break a fender or really scratch it badly.Look at the post in this forum that says "my shee".That is one of our paint jobs.Do not use plastic fusion by Krylon,it sucks!!!We build drag bikes mainly so all of them are painted using this method and it will not crack.Anyone at your local body shop should be able to help you.

Yes I have painted plastics
<---- check out my pics... the ones when the bike had the red frame and BRIGHT silver is the painted plastics. They held up ok untill I rolled it (delbarton). The only thing is that Gas will take it right off and so will brake fluid! If it bends to far it will crack and from that point it will peal. After the roll I replaced my plastics with Maier Silver (see pics of darker silver with flames).
Painting plastics can be expensive and WILL NOT hold up that well. Especially if you ride hard. If you want to worry about your bike all the time and watch getting on and off, and adding brake fluid, and putting in gas... Then sure go for it. That is my 2cents from someone who has been there and DONE that! LOL

I used a torch on my stress marks and it worked somewhat. It took the white down to a blue thats a little lighter then the original blue. But now it doesnt stand out half as much now! Its better then it was for sure!
Just becarful not to keep the heat/flame close to the plastic for to long because it will start to melt it, or make it a different color.
