$3000 for 01 Raptor, would it be a major headache ??
I just heard from a friend of a friend who has a 01 Raptor, ridden less than six times, all stock, only ridden lightly in the woods and is asking $3000. I know there is endless threads on this board about 01's, but for $3000 is it worth it. I assume not every 01 Raptor had a bad tranny, I've heard that the carb boots can be replaced with aftermarket. The guy doesn't ride anymore and wants the money for a plasma tv, so I might be able to get for less. It's about 2 miles from my house so I will most likely look at anyway, any input/advise would be appreciated, thanks.

If it hasn't been dogged it should be alright. Not everyone has the 01' Tranny problems, but most everyone has a one way problem. Not all, but they are pretty frequent. Other then that, it could be a good quad if you take care of it after the purchase.

Not all 2001 are a major headache, I still love mine, just had some problems to sort out.
I think my decision would hinge on wether I could do my own labor should anything go wrong, like the one-way or the starter. If you can, I would possibly buy but maybe use the problems as leverage to get it down if possible.
If you dont have tools, I would save another $500-1100 and get an 02. but the 02 at that price would likely have more hours on it.
Toss up for me

It's not the money I worried about, I have a '02 Sportsman on ebay right now. I don't want to buy it and spend more time fixing than riding. I should be able to do the work myself, if not I have a mechanic at work. I was looking at 03 and 04's, but something decent is about 5K +/-. I figured if I could buy for $2500 and put $1000 into I'd be ahead of the game.
