Where are you reading that the modified R's are banned from "pro level competition"?? You just cannot run in the production class. You can run in several other classes though such as Open Pro-AM, Open A, Open B, Pro-Am 265, etc.[/quote]

Briansgi, haven't you heard the the pro classes in MX and XC have adopted pro production rules? NO 250r can legally run in the pro class. My point when saying this is that the value of the R has dropped because of this rule. Consumers tend to buy whatever the pros use, and NO pros can run the R anymore. And any pro that ran a 250r will probably be selling it, unless he is keeping it for recreational purposes, so they tend to be available pretty cheap. LOW demand + higher supply = lower price/less value.

TellicoGrizz, I am leaning toward keeping the YFZ. It has a title, therefore I can register it and ride it on state forests, national parks, etc. Not to mention I cannot insure the 250R because it has no serial #'s. I agree that the maintenence would be cheaper - have you priced a new set of bearing from Roll Design lately?!? Plus the R is older and used where the YFZ is new. As far as reliability, the 250R is tough to beat, but the 450F dirt bike motor has held up well for the past couple years so it will also be reliable I think. I also believe that the only way the value of a 250R will go up again is after 2006. But then the only people who will buy them are nostalgia buffs, collectors, etc who will want them in more stock condition. I feel that the only reason the 250R has held its value so well up to this point is due to the lack of anything better from the mfg. in the past 15 years. Couple that with the limited supply b/c they stopped making it and you've got a rare, highly sought-after machine. Now all that is over. -----------------

Do classic cars go down in value? you dont think that the yfz or the 450r will be completly out done in the a few years, like the raptor or 400ex witch will be worth nothing very soon. Do peaple not see this or is it me.Out of many bikes produced sinced 1986 the 250r holds the most value from the original price. Keep the r it's a classic and will be hard to find years from today.

so I have a bone stock 88 250r with the stock topend thats 15 years and it still smokes 4-strokes and some stock banshees, only the oil and plug has been changed, and the filter cleaned. are you saying your yfz will go 15 years with that kind of maintence.and stock r's go for more than they cost to this day.
