Default Which one to keep - 250r or yfz??

I could use some advice. I have to sell one of my two quads and I can't decide. Quad #1 is a TRX250r complete 2001 Roll Design Lobo frame, front and rear end with axis shocks setup for XC. Duncan motor, tricked out everything! Quad #2 is a 2004 YFZ450 pretty much stock except for GYTR exhaust, jetting and twist throttle. The R handles much better due to the LOBO chassis, but the YFZ has more torque and better traction. They are both a blast to ride in the woods and on XC course, and they both cost me about the same $$-----------------So which one do you think will lose more value over time? The demand for 250r's has dropped significantly since the ATVA rules changes banned them from pro level competition. Do you think they will ever "come back?" Or will the 2004 YFZ drop alot in value if they bump it up to 450cc in 2005? Any other issues I should consider? Thanks for your help...

I never heard of the 250r's dropping in value. In my opinion I would keep both but if you had to sell that one is going to be hard cuz both bikes I like but if you insist I would keep the 250r, only because thos kick a$$ at the dunes. Then if you have to worry about money, which one will be easier to keep up? JMO

I would sell the YFZ. It sounds like you put a lot of time in on the R. And some day you wont be able to find any more R's

Yfz's are going to be everywhere and there just a good handling 4 stroke. That R is a wicked fast 2-stroke if you sell that thing you'll be kicking your self in a year. Plus like everyone says that yfz wolln't be worth crap in a few years. You could beat that R for years and it will continue to go up in value.

I for one would keep the YFZ!!! The reason's, is without even having to replace the frame, the YFZ can be modified to perform just as good as your 250R, second and TO ME the most important!! The YFZ will ALWAYS AND FOREVER WITHOUT ANY DOUBT, last longer, be more reliable, cost 10X less to maintain, its NEW, before long the ONLY place you will be able to ride your 250R is on the track!!! The new 2006 ban states you CANNOT ride a 2 STROKE on Government owned land! So if you wanted to let's say go ride at a local trail in a national forest, you can't!! You will be limited as to where you can ride the 250R but WILL not in ANY way be restricted with the YFZ! People will say the Value will go up???? I have a question, HOW and WHY would they go up???????????? They don't make them now and have not been made in ages, the owners of the ones they have now MIGHT sell theres because of the restrictions! You remember the whole "Plant" issue out at Glamis a few years back?????? The activists that are AGAINST the ATV's all together will only have 1 more thing to use as a weapon to fight back with! So just imagine everyone out in the dunes being told they can no longer ride their 2 strokes there? Then what??? That would make their machines WORTHLESS and not Valuable!!! Like you said, look at the pro level's today with the ban on 2 strokes in those classes!! Think about it, to the people that raced those classes, that "legendary" now dethroned by the 4 strokes 250R is WORTHLESS to them except for maybe leisurely fun or spending a day at the track with some friends!!!! There are countless numbers of reasons to keep the YFZ versus keeping the 250R, me personally, I'd sell the 250R NOW while you still can!! The emission laws are going to affect the 2 strokes more than people realize, I for one hate that it will, but it will nonetheless! I mean afterall, they got this ban passed for 2006, what makes you think they are going to all of a sudden one day abolish that law when it took them so long to pass this one??????? I think alot of the people on this forum just think of here and now, today, and don't look at tomorrow quite close enough, cuz it WILL be here before we know it and there is nothing we can do to change that!!! My opinion, keep the YFZ, one its 10x's more reliable, is WINNING on the MX series and would against the 2 strokes as well, remember the 426F motors in the quad frames that the pro's chose OVER the 250R?? Personally, I would tear the quad apart, sell it part by part, keep the frame and throw the YFZ in it IF possible, or sell it all on ebay or something, you can make ALOT more money off of it, then you can put that into the YFZ to make it perform even BETTER than the 250R did!!! Just my opinion, take 2006 into consideration!

I would say keep the R One of the best quads ever made. It has been proven to withstand years of riding and racing where as the yzf has only been out for a couple. The emisson laws will have to be grandfathered like cars I imagine and as old as a R is it should be excluded. I mean it to this day is still the quad todays quads are modeled after and trying to catch and it was around in the late 80s and tons of aftermarket stuff for it. Just my .02
