okay here it is.. I am going to do the Craycraft true 11:1 ratio ROSS piston.. Stage II hotcams..----> with this set up do i need ported and polished?
Also with this set up i am going with the SPARKS pipe, Jetted, K&N air filter and filter skins!
Would these set ups be good? Does anyone have these set ups or clost to them?
My last ? is about doing it!!! I am going to have my local dealer bore it to 102mm and im going to put the piston in.. and im also going to put the cams in.. Would you reccomend me doing it myself? I have no problem with patience and i do have mechanical experience but is the raptor too much of an expensive quad to be messing around like that in? Thanks soo much in advance!! I hope you guys who have mild 686 set ups can help me out -Matt-

Im not sure but i have a used 102mm je piston with about 10hrs on it for 60 dollars if you want, i used the 11:1 and then went to a 12:1 and picked about 2 to 3 bikes, youll want to go bigger after anyways so you might as well do it now..and it will scream with the stage 2 cam in it,..

( i mean technical) also anyone know about the port and polishing buisness? do i have to do it to have a 686? lol Also could i do it myself? -Matt-

the difference between the 11:1 and the 12:1 is that the 11:1 requires pump gas 93 octane
and the 12:1 requires race gas 100 octane and higher but I also heard that even running 11:1 you probably need to run higher than 93 octane so I would buy the Ross true 11:1 piston if you are only gonna run 93 octane (pump gas).

well yea i was thinking of buying the piston this week and having them bore it next week.. How much is it to send your cylinder to BOB, have him bore it, send it back? Prob a lot more than just driving it over to my dealer right? also rudyraptor you know your going to be spending a lot of $$$$$ for that 13:1 set up right!!! Do they sell a 95-100 octane? or like what do you mean by slightly higher octane than 93 octane?
So basically porting would be good right? well if i dont port it what would i lose? would it be bad at all for the engine? (at all?)

Not bad for the engine, you just wont see the full benefit of your mods. Basically you're doing half the job. You need to have new valve springs installed for a stage 2 anyhow. If there's any way you can swing it you should get it ported at the same time, otherwise you'll need to tear it down again later. It'll at least cost you a top end gasket set.

Raptorboy, Take this from someone who has tore their motor down 3 times. Once I changed from 11:1 to 12:1 and once more for a cam change plus the first build. Do the porting now or when $ allows. then send Bob your head and cylinder at the same time. I would only have a local shop do the bore if you know they do good work! I guess what I'm saying is wait until you can do it all at the same time. You'll be happier with the out come and also be $ ahead. Just think about the cost of a head gasket.
