Default yfz vs. raptor results

congrats dude. a raptor win a 1000ft pulling in 3rd sounds right on. i own both. and both are modded with pipes and high comp pistons. the yfz is quicker but the raptor is still the fastest. i don't doubt my YFZ brothers and there wins....it can be a close race. but the Raptor should start pulling you after 400-500ft. alot of the YFZ wins i hear about are on short tracks/runs...which of course, will be in the YFZ's favor.

both great quads...but i think the raptor will always have more potential as far as future gains. the YFZ has some gains to be had...but they've squeezed most of the performance out of that power plant in it's dirt bike form. IMO

The only one who can follow me was the piped banshee(we were even almost every time)
We were on dirty asphalt for about 1000 feet.
For the YFZ he jumped me on the start for about 1 lenght the i go past him and finish about 3 bike lenght.

And dont talk about riding skill he ride for about twice has long has me.
We are about the same weight.

I know that when he got himself a pipe he will surely beat me but then I will add Hi comp piston and a stage 2 cam and I will smoke him again....

yeah, your right. But actually, all he would have to do to beat you is remove his baffle, airbox lid, and rejet.
You could put your piston and cam in, and then beat him, but if he does the other free mod "cammod", gets an exhaust himself, some sort of airintake (like a proflow) and jets it properly with a yz needle, he'll still win! This has been my experience, that the experience of many others.
Don't forget, you have a 660cc engine, and the sky is the limit when it comes to mods. You can make a hell of a quad with that motor, but you have to have a lot more work and money into a 660 to make it faster then a mildly worked on 450.
And, even when you do all of the things you would have to do, to make it faster then the yfz, your still not going to be near as fast as a yfz in any type of whoops, corners, c/c racing and especially mx.
You'll just have a quad that can go insanely fast in a straight line.
Not trying to dog the raptor, I HAVE ONE, and still love it, but its just a simple fact that the yfz is a lot more advanced then the raptor.

Hey man, It sounds like I am in the same boat as you, and alls I had to do is put a 15 tooth front sprocket on my yfz, and its a lot faster then my raptor, and several others! I put the 15tooth on, because with the mods that I have, with the 14 tooth front sprocket, the quad was almost out of control on trails.
I got another ?? for ya. What do you have done to your yfz? I noticed quit a difference in the topend power of my yfz when I put in the yzcam (or cammod).
My raptor has some serious *****, and is fast, but my yfz is faster!!

i've got the GYT-R aluminum pipe...stainless header...high comp piston and jet kit (no lid). i'm running Razor2's on Baja rims 20's in back and 21's up front. on 94 octane.

i have not done the cam mod...after my next race i may make that change.

Sweet man, sounds like a nice quad. I would recomend the pro-flow intake too, so you can get some air into the quad. that stock setup is quit restrictive with that screen and all. Thats what I am running, with a k&n, and outerwears, works well, and provides a good airbox/filter seal.
I do recomend the cammod, it did make a noticable difference in the mid-topend power. Did you ever see the video of the two yfz's, both identicle, one has th mod, and one didnt. The one that didnt got beat pretty dang bad!!
Im running a full procircuit titanium-4 exhaust, proflow intake, yz cam (same as cammod) and have it spot on jetted, with a yzneedle, 48 pilot (a must with the cammod), 175main, and 2turns out on the screw! .....Im not kiddin either about the sprocket, I had to put that 15tooth on, otherwise the thing was too much of a handful in tighter trails. It would want to go balistic. Plus now, the thing will go like 85-88pmh!!
I am also running the ITP XCR-03's, front and rear. I love them, but I was also wondering what the razr2's where like? Do you like them? Do they throw a good roost?

i knew i forgot something...yes i do have a prodesign pro-flo filter already.

i'll have to consider changing sprockets as well...as far as the Razor2's? lol ,these are the sickest tires i've ever owned. they hook up in anything and power slide on demand. but as far as roosting? OMG! you never want to be behind someone with these that loves to roost. they are down right dangerous. they'll pick up rocks the size of lemons, branches and anything else you roll over and throw it at your friends. they are violent. i love them.

i will be seriously considering your mods...i'm running 4-5 GNCC's this year. i'll be down in Morganton NC this weekend to see how my existing mods hold up. i've set-up a helmet cam...so i should have some cool footage to post.

I personally wouldn't mind having a 450 along side my raptor, but to be realistic I enjoy the raptor alot more than the 450. I have had a little seat time in a 450 and it is quick but just not quick enough to warrant a real good whoopin! the fact is that I like riding sand dunes alot more so than I do track riding and for open desert and dune riding the 450 will beat you to death. We just came back from Waynoka a week ago and there were quite a few 450's out there and 90% of the time when we were flying back and forth at high speed sweepers across the dunes while the 450's were just perched up top stearing. I think the 450 is a pretty good bike and is rather quick. But like mentioned above, it is has very little potential left in its engine, were as I'm already looking at possibly floating the cost for a 686 for next years trip to Waynoka. I also talked to one guy out there on the dunes who after a couple of hours on his new YZ450 told us that he wished he had gotten a raptor instead because it just slap beat him to death in the dunes. ITs a great track bike but there is alot more land out west and the raptor is the better choice of the two IMO for high speed dune riding and open desert. FYI I doubt my body could hold up to the pace we were carrying at 3-4 hour extents on the dunes if I had a yz450 instead of a raptor.
