Yes, you can go from 2 to 4 wheel drive on the fly (less than 3 MPH recommended). It replaces the stock shaft coming off the engine allowing it to disengage the front wheels. It has a cable that runs to the top of your quad and you simply turn the **** to release it, pull or push the **** in or out and twist it again to lock it in or out.

However the teflon bushing used to engage/disengage wears out quickly. They can be replaced easily and cheaply enough but it could leave you stuck in 2wd. This is what happened to a friend who had one, he wore the bushing out in less than 100 miles of mud riding at Wayne NF. Had to finish the trip with a 26" tire equiped 2wd Wolverine.
