bogging blaster
#1
hey guys i was just getting some imfo for a friend on a blaster i think its mid nineties it has purple plastic if that tells you anything about it anyway he just bought this thing and it is really bogging out bad it sounds like a four stroke it has a k&n air filter and problably has been rejetted i think he said the main # was 230 sorry if im wrong but anyway he cleaned the carb and the air filter and the plug what else could be causing this? there are a couple vent hoses missing on the carb would that be the problem? does anyone know how many turns the screws on the carb are supposed to be turned
thanks for your help we really appreciate it

man that could be a lot of things really. check the plug.. it's prob wet and fouled. make sure the air filter is clean.. a new plug will prob help. what kinda carb on it? what kinda pipe? I think 230 is close to stock jet size.. i run a 310 with my toomey pipe. sounds rich, but the TORS could be messing with you... that box on top of the carb, if it has the stocker carb. there's a way to bypass it, but i'm afraid I dont know how. It involves one of the boxes under the hood tho. Ive never had any trouble with it.
Check the simple stuff cuz that's what it will be.
you'll find it.

The needle clip position controls from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, the main jet takes over from 3/4 to full throttle, and the pilot jet controls from idle to 1/8 throttle so as you can see each jet controls the air fuel mixture delivery at certain points of the throttle position.. To determine what needs to be adjusted you must first do plug chops at all of the different throttle positions. The airscrew should be no more than 2 turns out and no more than 1 turn in.. The ideal setting for the airscrew should be between 1-2 turns out... Change the plug first and if thats not the problem do a compression check. If the compression is 125psi or lower you should consider a top end rebuild. But if the compression is not low then your problem is most likely jetting...

be gentle on the jet screws! try starting at 1.5 turns from closed. i think the stock needle position is right in the middle, and yes, moving the clip will make a huge diff, cuz that controls where you do most of your riding. I know I had to move the clip down one with the toomey pipe, to raise the needle and it works perfectly. are we dealing with a stock muffler? that will make a huge difference. keep an eye on the plug and dont overtighten that either...the color will tell you what is happening. just tinker with it, youll find the right combo.
the rig could be worn out too ya know... a compression test will tell. you can use a car compression tester and youll know right away....could save you a lot of time.....
