chrome vs. unpainted is any performance loss or is it just looks?

does this affect the performance of the pipe?

Yes it matters. I think it matter more for 2 strokes (maybe thats what your talking about). A 2 stroke pipe is designed to run at a certain temp. If you chrome or ceramic coat a bare pipe it changes the temp inside the pipe.
With a 4stroke I think you want to keep as much heat in it as possible, but that is just a guess.
