Default Warn 424 VS High Lifter Unlocker

I am doing some research on the two and was wondering to get some input, from the riders, on which (if either) is better. I am looking for everything from quality to reliability to price. I know they are both made by reconized companies, but the question is still in the back of my mind on the better select.

I really want the 2wd option I hear it is just like buying a new quad....so any help would be great

Thanks

Default Warn 424 VS High Lifter Unlocker

Being a mechanical engineer and having plenty of experience with the Highlifter unit, I would recommend going with the Warn 424 unit. The highlifter unit has the actual shifting mechanisim exposed to the elements and is merely a piece of Nylon block riding against the actual shift collar. The major problem with this is that it needs lubrication from time to time to avoid a meltdown and the lubrication draws dirt. That dirt will end up grinding away the mating surfaces between the two (the nylon will give first), however, Highlifter sent me 3 replacements as I had converstations with them about my concerns for a 150mi Colorado Ride (of which I am still on my first block).

The Warn Unit is sealed, therefore no issues with the contaminates getting in. I have heard of a couple of people having problems....1st, keep an eye on the anti-rotation strap that keeps the shifting body from rotating around with the actual drive shaft. If this strap wears in two, the shifting cable will get all twisted up and the repair kit I believe is around $100. 2nd, the adjustment for getting the handknob to lock into place must be a bit tricky because if you do a search for problems, that one comes up more often than anything else.

I am not far away from ordering a Warn for my bike and I have another buddy that is pretty close to ordering his. I have found a guy on E-Bay that sells them for $199 (without shipping). If we were to e-mail him about buying 3 (me, my buddy, and you), we might be able to get him to throw in the shipping, or maybe even a small price discount.

Now, if money is tight, I would be willing to sell you my highlifter unit for a very reasonable price. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, but if I buy the warn, I won't need it any longer. Don't get me wrong, after what I said up there, I probably made the Highlifter unit sound inferior to the Warn, of which it is not, it merely has to be lubricated (something of which the Warn unit does not).

Hope this helps.

Ride On.

Default Warn 424 VS High Lifter Unlocker

I have no experiance with the highlifter, But the warn is a very user friendly
piece of equipment ,.I've had mine on since I got my wolvy, back in october,
and have had no trouble since I learned the locker/unlocker *** locks in
much better while rolling.

The anti-rotation strap is showing very little if any wear or seperation in it, and
I ride very hard out at Windrock almost every weekend, going in and out of 4x4
when needed, then check everything as I wash it afterwards.

I hope I'm not the exception, but I'm very happy with mine.

peace
