Default Kodiak Four Wheel Drive Question

I own a 2003 Kodiak 400. I have had it since 12/02. I sometimes notice a clunking or banging noise when I switch from 4 wheel to 2 wheel drive. It seems delayed a few seconds after I push the button. It does not happen every time. Can anyone explain this?

Default Kodiak Four Wheel Drive Question

Hello and welcome to ATV connection. I have an 02 Kodiak and it does the same thing coming out of 4 wheel drive. Basically its the nature of the beast. You probably notice that sometimes it makes the clunking sound quite loud. I'm not sure if you make a complete stop before disengaging the front wheels but that is a good thing to do. I use to notice the clunk was very loud if I would drive over 10 km/h.Here are some other tricks that some of us use. I stops the loud clunk and all I hear now is slight click.
- after pushing the button tap the gas a bit
- some turn the handle bars from side to side to ease the pressure on the cv shafts.

Default Kodiak Four Wheel Drive Question

I've got a 450, but still the same thing. Like he said, after pushing the 4wd button, turn the handlebars back and forth a few times so engagement is easier.
