No I wasnt running it that way. I had a box with a cut lid (basically no lid, I cut it so it would just hold the filter in place) with a K&N and outerware. I didnt get a lot of mud in the box either. I just wanted more power so I went with the open intake. We dont get much rain around here so mud isnt a big concern to me. Im wanting to get rid of the box and filter, maybe you would be interested in it?

I dont have a box, this is what I use, I have the water repellant outerwear and actually it has never gave me any problems getting sand/water in my engine.
