Default Ride Report - Craycraft 686

Well I got up today, and went to the local parts place. Picked up a new spark plug and came home. I put the new plug in did a quick jetting run about 1/2 throttle and back. Pulled the plug and it was tan/white. I hated the sight of that so I put it back in and did another jetting run like the first. The plug was alittle more tan without the whitish haze. So I put it in and did another jetting run and the plug was orangish looking. So I was like, I'll just ride alittle. So I took off on a short ride. Jumped a couple banks and the usual riding. I came back home and my buddy came up on his high compression 400EX.

So I was like, wanna line them up. He said sure, so we got out in the usual place and I let him take off first like always. Well the last time when I just had a pipe we would stay pretty close 1-3 and I would pull off in 4-5. We made 5 runs before I tore mine down and the results would be the same.

Well this time he took off first as usual and I spun first and second and then got good traction and cruised by him in 3rd 3/4 throttle, hit 4th and pulled another 3 lenghts on him, hit 5th and 3/4 throttle and I was 10-12 lenghts and pulling away. We made 3 runs and the results were the same everytime except the last time. The last time we had a guy drop his hat to take off and this time the gap when I got to 5th gear was about 13-15 lenghts. To say I'm pleased is a understatement. I haven't hit WOT yet, but I'm having a blast with the break in. I almost went through a tank of gas today, so I'm still breaking her in slowly. Nothing over 3/4 throttle. But I have been cranking on it pretty good. Nothing major. She is still running great, and I haven't found one problem other then the goofy jetting. I'm going to pull the spark plug first thing tomorrow and if it isn't my fav. brown/rust color I'm off to get some bigger jet's. I never run my Raptor with the plug showing anything but brownish rust. I will probaly pick up another spark plug tomorrow and try it with 150/148 jetting. If I don't like the way that looks I'll go alittle higher. But I think 150/148 will cure the problem. I'm at 148/145 right now.

But so far so good, and anyone with the extra $$ should definetly look into getting a 686. I haven't found those YFZ's that usually cruise around, but I will be looking for them in the next few days. I really don't want to get into a serious all out drag until a couple runs where I can wind it out good. I also want to get this plug reading my favorite color. But man this thing rips. In the few hills I popped up over with the Fast Trekkars, I had no problem ripping second gear. With just the pipe, they were more a first gear hill. But now they are a 2nd gear half throttle and just roost to the top. LOL. Gotta love that extension.

BTW....I'm hoping to get the pictures up tomorrow. I've got my fingers crossed that I can get them developed. If not it will be Sunday, but I will get them up. There is a small store below my house and I made a trip down there this evening to get a SoBe and when I came back out there was 7-10 people looking at my Raptor gawking. I just smiled and climbed back on and off in the sunset I went, 1/2 throttle with the Alba screaming. LOL. It's defintely a eye catcher, and I can't wait to show you all the finished product. It might not be a bad idea to go one heat range colder (9).

When do you have time to work?

When do you have time to work?

I busted @$$ all last year working, and took the winter off(not much construction in the winter here in WV). Then worked Jan.-Last Friday. Now I'm drawing unemployment for awhile before going back in another month or two. I got 5 months of un-employment and I would like to get a month or two of it before going back to work and then using the rest over this upcoming winter. Ken- I would drop a range on the plug like sixsixt said. Keep dialing those carbs in, and you will be amazed at how much you can pick up. Finish the break end and then make some full throtle plug checks.

Alright, I'll go to the cooler plug and see what plug looks like after a couple runs. Running lean is the only thing that I worry about. So I'll try a differnt plug, and get back to you all on what it looks like. Might even take a pic and post for opinion's.
