It probably wasn't the carbs fault that the rod broke. The additional power that the carbs gave the engine was the reason the rod broke.

You were pushing the rod to it's max capability, then you added carbs and it couldn't hold the extra power and let go.

Well atleast that's what it sounds like to me happened in your case.

 

I saw big big gains with the 39mm FCRs, but I was taxing the stockers big time. The bike is way faster. However I had 12:1 piston web 685 cam, ported head, stock size SS valves, and open K&Ns.

I hear everyone say that these are TONS easier to jet...how so? Whats the process of jetting them? Thanks guys.

 

There's a large nut on the bottom of the bowls that you can pull to get to the jets. The jets are hex shaped, and if you have the right tool easy to do.

 

They're easier to work on but I wouldn't say they're easier to jet (tune).

 

I actually have enough money saved up to go with the fcrs now but i am thinking that the stock carbs jetted very high with mikuni mains might perform well also.Does anyone have a guess as to where start jetting at for sea level if and when i go with the 12.5:1 and a cam or should those changes effect the jetting that i have now much?I am currently using(175-180)mikuni mains which is pretty rich based on what others are using but it works for me.
