When I try to crank it it won't start, but it is firing. Should be getting gas because we can pull it off and it will start- while running it backfires alot. I am running stock carburetors with 260 main jets and stock airbox. Clip is in 2nd slot on needle. I have FMF pipes and silencers. I have the T.O.R.S. disconnected. What could cause these symptoms? Also, are the cdi's or the coils diffrent between 1987-90?

Thanks, Jeff Lovett

Try replacing the plugs, I had the same problem and that fixed it.

Try synching your carbs and adjusting your air screws. The air screw factory setting is 2 full turns out. Check the tops of the carbs to make certain that they are tight.

To remove the TORS just unplug the darn unit under the tank. It has a 3 wire connection, unplug it and it's gone. Nother other questions about it.

Did you by any chance take apart your carbs recently? If you switch the slides and they are in the wrong carb, it can cause really wierd problems.

Check for vacuum leaks by spraying some ether around all the gaskets, if the engine revs up you have a bad gkaset or seal, that will cause a banshee to run like junk.

So many other things could be wrong.. this is a good place to start..

if your just putting on your pipes you need a 30 pilot jet and dont forget backfire through the pipe means your lean & backfire through the carb means your rich also also dont forget to check spark plug for lean or rich conditions
