The Raptor is fading
#31
Wow, just when I thought the confusion would be dying down, I come back from vacation and it's worse than ever!
A couple of questions popped into my head.
1) On the moddified quads that ATV Sport gives times for, is only the engine different, or do they have longer swingarms, different tires and etc?... That would make a huge difference even with the same engine.
2) If Dirtwheels declares the Raptor to be faster than the Yamaha 426 bike, how could the 0-60 times be correct? They are in line with a decent performing car, and I can't imagine very many cars outrunning even a decent dirtbike to 60.
3) With so may different opinions in the reviews, is it possible or does it even make sense that Yamaha could be delivering these demos in different states of tune to see what the reaction to different combinations is?

I had a 99 400ex withe pipes padddles filter and jets it was a really gutless bike so I sold it and now have a 99 banshee also the 250r is not a very fast bike I raced one withe pipes paddles porting carberator k@n filter and reads in the dunes wednesday we raced 3 times my banshee has t5 pipes paddles and a filter the first two races I beat him by about 8-10 quad lenghts the third race I had about 15 lenghts on him half way up sand mountain he turned around and cruised off we were about even weight

I read somewhere before, and it does seem to make sense- the fact that a Banshee (13 year old design!) will even remotely run with the latest and greatest offerings should speak wonders for its design (although it is dated, granted). Do you think a 1987 YZ250 will even get anywhere close to a 2001 YZ250? Nada. Nowhere close to it. The only new bike,in my opinion, that's any better than the 'old' designs is the Cannondale. I sure hope it makes it to production.

Hey garyc660R, you still don't get it! I did NOT buy a Banshee because it will do 75 mph, but because of it's acceleration and hill shooting ability in the sand. How quickly it gets to top speed is more important that what the top speed actually is.
All bickering aside, let's face it, we're going to have a big time once those Raptors arrive.

Pairof98's is right.. if you gonna buy a bike for drag racing and top speed.. buy a banshee. It accelerates quicker than any other production made.. except the raptor (maybe?) I think Yamaha better enjoy it's throne of victory with the Raptor.. cuz when they release the cannondale.. it's all gonna change. Too many revolutionary products on the cannondale.. why mod it? Already got leager a arms stock.. 2 into 1 pipe.. maybe dmc or motofast.. but I doubt it. DuraBlue axle.. and some other mods. I personally believe that the cannondale will be the Higher Performer. SO has anyone heard about suzuki or kawasaki making a sport bike? Really excited to see what kawasaki is putting together.. I know, if it is a 2 stroke, I will not buy it.. I love the 2, but, eventually, the tree huggin hippies will get they're way, and ban large displacement 2's. Well, just thought I'd p*ss some of you off.. enough for now. Later
