warrior smoking

my 88 warrior smokes a little when you hit the high rpm's.i will just rev it up alot and you will see smoke come out. can this be from too much oil in the motor?do i need new piston rings, i don't think i do. the quad won't smoke when riding, just when you rev it up or when you are pinned in 6th gear flying on a road.does anyone have any info.thanx

I have an 03 and I changed the jets in it and when I run cheap gas it does the same thing. What Kind of gas do you run. Is the smoke black. I had the same prob. but as soon as I changed the gas it ran fine.

Do a compression test to tell if your rings are tired..........warriors are pretty bullet proof, but yeah check your oil level. Most likely, any "burning oil" is from tired valve guides, and not worn rings?
Being a 1988, it's a tired motor all around. Has it led a rough life and has it ever been torn down before?

i haven't tried a higher octane. i have an hmf pipe on it and a k@n air filter with a modified air box. i took out the spark plug and it has carbon all over it.i am guessing that this means it is running to rich.i checked my main jet and it is145, the stock jetting, so i don't know why it smoked that little bit at the high rpms?anymore help would be helpful!

If its a grayish-blue smoke then your prolly need new valve guides or rings. If its a black smoke then its likley to be in the jetting ( although it would be odd that it would be rich having mods with stock jetting ) or caurberation.
