I actualy got tired of buying new parts and having them break. LOL. I bought the piston from Sam, (the owner of the Raptor in SixSixT's pics) and the stage 2 cam came from Lowbowtie, both used parts. I have found that gearing is crucial with the stage 2 cam. The engine wants more gear too stay in the meat of the power.

To answer your question first Gary. I did go down 1 tooth in the rear to the stock 40. I was useing 12/40 gearing with 22" haulers. I had been running 12/41. I also bought an open end cap from Alba for my pipe vs the 18 disks I was running.

Dfitz,

I used VP c12 this time out. 108 octane I believe it is. I've found a place to buy Sunoco purple for $4.57 a gallon from the pump and will be useing that next time out. The sunoco purple is 110 octane.

wshrdskin, how did the sound change with the open race end cap compared to the disc set up?

I've never run anything but the open end cap, and was just wondering what the disc set up was like? Also how much was the end cap by itself shipped....??

660R,

It got louder. LOL. With the disks (I used 18 not 12) It had a quieter sound at idle but was still pretty loud on the gas but not quite as loud as with the open end cap.

The end cap shipped to my door was $65.65. The sad part was, I was charged $54.99 for the part and on the bag when I got it said $49 I think it was, maybe even $40 I can't remember now. I guess they charge more for internet orders.

The only reason I switched to the open end cap was because of my other thread about my holy piston. Some suggested that I might have to small of a header and could be causeing to much heat in the chamber. Albas header is the same size as stock. Short of buying a new pipe I removed the disks instead to free up as much flow as I could. May or may not help. Power wise I've tried the end cap before and picked up a tad top end over the 18 disks, but I liked the disks for the sound and forestry approved, I'll just have to switch when I need to be forestry approved.

Yep. The header size is same as stock, but the mid pipe is bigger, and the end cap is bigger. I have always run the open end cap. I thought about getting a new end cap just because mine isn't as shiney as it used to be. But it cleans up nice with some chrome polish. Just make sure you keep it clean and it will have a lasting shine.

But I love the sound of the alba and the 686. It has a awesome sound.
