normal place to ride is Dumont and the hill there is 1000' long with a rise in ele3There is a difference in performance
I've been running a 686 with 11:1 stage 1 cam for a while now. My normal riding area is Dumont dunes, the hill there is aprox 1000' long start to shut down and a rise in elevation of aprox 300'.
According to my GPS before the mods I was running the hill at 41.5 mph I weigh about 250-260. My 13 year old son who weighs 110lbs was running it at 45.?? mph. After installing a 12:1 and stage 2 cam with springs I'm happy to say there is a good gain in performance.
My best time up the hill was 45.3 mph and my sons was 54.8 mph. My brother who weighs 200lbs or so on only his second run up the hill on my quad ran it at 49.1 mph. He rides a stage 3 DS and these quads are very different so to hit 49.1 on only his second try is pretty good. I bet he could have hit 50 if he took a few more trys at it.
In comparrison to the only familiar quad that was present, my brothers stage 3 DS. We would be somewhat close before the mods with him pulling out the wins most of the time. Well, now I can get him by 3-5 quad lengths depending on the starts and according to him, if the hill were longer it'd be more as I am pulling on him up the hill.
So, to make a long story shorter, going from the 11:1/stage 1 cam combo to the 12:1 stage 2 combo is imo a good investment power wise.
Do any of you math wizes out there know what the incline of that hill would be? 1000' long with a rise in elevation of 300'? I don't know and am just curious what it works out to be. TIA

The dunes were perfect. Got there about 5:30 yesterday evening in the high 90's and left Sunday about 9 am or so whn it was about 80. Larrys 400ex quit running or we'd have stayed a little longer. The dunes were smooth as glass. Only a handful of others there as well. Pretty much had the place to ourselves. It cooled off nicley in the evening and was perfect Sunday morning. A very worthwhile 2 1/2 hour drive each way for a short period of time to say the least.
