Default FMF Warrior vs. DG Warrior

Me and a buddy were riding last friday (May 14) in my Grandmother's hometown of Terra Nova (see pics for sand pits .. woohoo )

We visited a field where my father plans to build a cabin and we decided since it was a nice long flat field with property markers, we should have a drag.

Both of us have 2001 Warriors. Mine has the mods listed in my sig (FMF, 12/42 gearing, Razrs) his has DG pipe, stock gearing and kenda klaw's.

Neither of us has any real great experience with racing (this was my first opportunity to drag actually), though I've had my Warrior a fair bit longer than him. We did a few races of probably 400 to 500 feet with the following results:

1. him on the left me on the right - first of all .. I couldn't hear my bike over his .. the DG pipe is really really loud compared to my FMF. I gave the nod and we started. I flubbed my start by wheelieing, but got the nose back down and ran as hard as I could. I barely caught him by the end of the strip, and just pulled past him because he let off on the throttle before the end post.

2. me on the left and him on the right - I sat on the tank this time and started in 2nd, he gave the nod, I pulled hard away from him off the line but by 1/2 way I could see him gaining on me. By the end he was right on my tail.

We did that a few more time with the same results bascially each time. I started off in 1st on one race and he was much closer at the end than the other times.

The results seemed a little off to me though. I figured with my gearing I would be able to pull away much easier but not so. I also figured on the first race that I would be able to catch up pretty easy, but again, not so. If he hadn't let off the throttle towards the end I probably would have ended up at least 1 length if not 2 behind him.

Time to get that filter on and rejet I think

Any thoughts?

I would say he caught you do to gearing. Your gearing is set up for slower speed where low speed torque is needed. He's running taller gears which will give him the edge in the top end department. I would guess the gearing would give a 8% difference in top speed.

You should of jetted that bike the day you put the exhaust on, these bikes are lean in factory trim with stock everthing. When I put the White Bros. E series ex. and K&N filter, I used the dynojet jet kit and ran a 144 main, Thats when the bikes motor was stock. Now I went back to Mikuni jets and am running a 165 main. The stock jet a Warrior is a 145 main. The Dynojet kit uses a smaller needle (you need to change that, a bit of a pain) thats why the jets are smaller.

going to a 12 in the front will give u more top end.. and less acceleration... putting a 41 on back will bring the acceleration back up and top speed down a lil.... i just order a new set of gears 13/41 i have a 14 on front now?? thought 13 was stock wierd.. anyway so ur bike should have a little more top speed than his but lil less acc.. depends on rear tires too...
