A moment to discuss reliability of big bores - I've had my Craycraft 730 running for a couple of weeks. In that time, I've pulled a 1700 HP Dynojet dyno (3000 lb rollers) to redline 9 times and practiced full throttle launches on asphalt with drag slicks and a wheelie bar at least 3 dozen times (60 foot time, 60 foot time, 60 foot time!). Temp holds steady at 160-180 with no thermostat or fan but I don't idle for more than a few minutes at a time. It hasn't used a drop of oil. In just a few weeks, I've put this motor through more abuse than my Craycraft 686 ever endured and it hasn't missed a beat. If you choose the right builder, reliability shouldn't be a concern for a big bore Raptor. Save your pennies though, it's not cheap to do it right.

Reliablity is pretty much a non factor in a 727-740 build. Those guys replace the rod and go thru everything. Now for all the top end 686 guys on a stock rod, you better start saving up for rod day. Like the old STP commercial, you can pay me now or you can pay more later. lol

it cost more in the long run to cut corners and your not riding because your working on it

What paddles are you running at the Cinders, i ruined a set of new haulers up their after 2 rides, i mean all the paddles were gone. I was thinking about running paddlemaster, what do you run and which one seems to hook up the best, cuz i can barely make it up $100 hill on my haulers and i cant go up the face i have to go up the side?

From watching the vids I just don't think it's worth machining the bottom case for the clearance needed for the longer stroke on the 700's just to gain an extra quad length on a 686. Honestly I thought bout building my raptor up that much, and I would so go that route as many as you have in the dunes without hesitation. But for up here where I live, that difference will never show between a 686 and a 730, there's just not enough room cept for the odd flat river drags in the winter. And even then, there's so many other factors that would affect it over cc displacement. Setups everything, and I know for a fact that there won't be many guys in my area even with a 730 that can setup their quads good enough to beat a 686 fine tuned because once they jet, they will never tinker and rejet, their too lazy and get the shops to do all their tuning, shops I used to work at! The shops don't know jack, I watched them try to dial in a Banshee with pipes when I was 17 and thought they were total idiots then, let alone if they changed mechs... I haven't lost to a Raptor yet in this town no matter what mods they had, and I've heard of a few 700+cc raptors going round, even one on nitrous. He's probably went through his tranny by now amongst many other parts, I seen that quad, looked bagged to hell and back! I'm going to do the rod, and I'll probably hold off on the 686 kit till next winter when I'll send my head out to get ported. I like hearing bout your buildups and advice either way, seeing how strong that 686 runs against 730's I know that's all I need for my area. But no one's mentioned if they've heard or seen a Powroll 770kit run yet? What's up with that? Powroll makes good kits, I got one in my T-Wolf, so why isn't anyone going that route?

I dont think they machine it to put a longer stroke for a 727 its still the stock stroke they machine it to put a larger sleeve in it for the 105mm bore... if anyone can correct me...
