Sanddraggen - not bracket racing.

300ft is not a long race. 535 Cheetahs have a LOT of power, but traction is important. My 686
has a record of 7 wins 1 loss against them so far. If it was pavement, or longer races, sure it would
come screaming by... it has like 100hp. But for 300ft, my 686 is the winner almost always. Each
week, all the 1st place trophies come home in our trailer [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] The Cheetahs do however, blow through
the trap with the fastest MPH, but they dont get there first.

I don't know yet what caused the cracked cylinder. Bob informed me that there are two different length bolts that hold the cylinder down. When the dealership put the engine back together for me they probably got the bolts in the wrong spot. This caused weird stresses on the cylinder and *CRACK*. So I am going to take it back to them, watch them take the cylinder off, and have them measure the bolts. If they were not in the right place, that means they owe me a new cylinder and whatever else is broken.

Either that or maybe they didn't torque the bolts properly. When I watched him put the valve cover back on he did not torque the bolts down like you are supposed to. He just used an allen wrench and tightened each one down as he went.

You can't tell from the pictures, but the crack comes from the front of the cylinder, starting by the base gasket. Goes up around the little allen head bolt, and all the way back down to the base gasket on the side of the engine.

the guy running that 535 cheetah must not know how to tune them, because with the right tires in 300ft sand that bike should hook like a ****. If its not getting traction he needs to step up the paddles, unless its a Trinity 535 cheetah, then your raptor should beat it.

 

A stock banshee with pipes can go 5.4 on sand in 300' and the 535 thing is messed up caused my friend went a 4.4 at 44mph cause he had to let off half track.

 

I haven't seen a piped Banshee run anything better then a 5.7 or 5.8 around here. Now a ported banshee with pipes and some work will get down to the 5.4 range, but not with just pipes. And we are on dirt.

 

banshees in your area are slow...very slow.

RaptorRacer, for your mods, i think you should be a little faster for your tuning. Our Polaris 500 4x4 will go 5.9 and 6.0 with a pipe and k&n. The 2 raptors here run 5.0 with a light rider, around 5.2s with the owners.

 

I weight 235 pounds with clothes and boots. Plus my new engine had less than 1 hour break in time and a crack in the cylinder. I hope that once I get it rebuilt and loose my spare tire I will go a lot faster.

And these were my first two runs ever on a sand drag strip with new tires and a whole new setup. I agree that I was not too impressed with the times, but I think I have a lot of potential for improvement.

How does the trap speed look? What are the speeds that the 5 second quads are running at?

Banshees around here may sound/be slower than in other places... sure.

We are on "dirt", with no Wheely bars. How fast you think a 100hp Banshee
can do 300ft in with these conditions ?? You cant just hook up that power with
magic traction dust. You either spend lots of money and run full drag frames and
wheely bars, or you spin for 100ft, and run 5.0 flat.

How many of you have seen 4's in 300ft on dirt, running no wheely bar ? Its not
as easy as you think.

 

i run 4.60s in dirt (well clay) with no wheelie bar and i dont have 100hp. stock frame 350 on gas. the fastest banshee at ouur home track is a 7mil stroker and it runs 4.1s and 4.2s with no wheelie bar.

Raptor racer, 5.0 atvs at our track are around 58-65mph. If you keep drag racing, your times will improve from practice and figuring alot of stuff on setup. I have went from a 5.0 to a 4.8 just because i wasn't running the right gearing, and we still weren't/aren't find tuned on setup. how big does a 102mm piston make the raptor?
