The engine requires the stator.. its not for starting it triggers the signal for spark, provides power and charges your battery (with the regulators help) , if just the charging coil was to fail it would run but not charge, if the source or trigger coil are faulty it will not run or will run like crap. Have you checked the wires that come from the stator where they plug into the main harness. All it takes is a bit of dirt/corrosion, I have even seen the wires come loose at the connectors...
Hope you find the problem.

And I dirfted it...it started but ran like crap...if I gave it any throttle above 1/4 it would bog and want to die then backfire......my stator misfiring or is it my carb/jets/parking brake etc...

I have had this problem sevaral warriors ago back in 1989, Its the clutch lever swicth thats needed to start the engine. it gets wet, allows the starter to turn over, but kills the ignition. To simply fix the problem find the two connectors under the front hood undo them from the switch and connect them together. (The plugs are already male and female comming from the wiring harness). WARNING after doing this the starter will turnover without pulling in clutch or while riding. good luck

I know this sounds dumb, and I am not trying to be a smart a$$, but are you sure you have no spark? How did you test that? I just did mine the other day... I pulled the wire off the plug, stuck it on another one and laid it on the cylinder and turned it over... I had good spark... (Yes I changed plugs and both worked) Still wont start though... My problem is that I left teh gas turned on the last time I rode it, and I haven't riden it for at least a year, so the carb is all gunked up. I dumped the gas, drained the float bowl, checked the fuel running into the carb, filled with good gas and still wont run. So it has to be the carb. It is at teh dealers right now having them soak the carb and cleaning it up. I suspect it will run after that....
Any way, just wondering how you had checked the spark deal. I sure hope I don't run into a problem like yours... Sounds like you have replaced just about the whole electical system. DId you check the wires above the reverse lever? Make sure you don't have corrosion that kills the ground. It you push started it but it ran poorly,,, you might just have a bad ground.
Did you check to see if the battery terminals were tight?

Worrior Spark,
You need to RE-Ground your coil, check the wires from there to the stator, and install a new plug - check it for spark - still no spark - replace the pick up coil, I have lost a few at the dunes before on freinds bikes. If you can, replace the stator and pick up from a known good bike.

do you know anyone looking for a stator. I told you that we replaced the cdi box and stator and still no spark. Well we took it to the Yamaha shop and they are the ones telling us that we needed all that. Couldn't afford anymore so we brought it home and my husband used the ohm meter and checked things out, including his old stator. Guess what his old stator tests just fine according to the spec book! So therefore they screwed us and nothing was wrong with it, the thing that doesn't check out is the coil. Don't you think they could have told us that if they really would have checked it professionally?! Let me know if anyone needs a stator.

Just had the problem over the winter and it was very fustrating!! But I did find the problem and fixed it (myself). Yamaha uses universal spark plug boots. These are the kind that you cut 3/8" of the end of the wire and then jam the boot on effectively splicing the wire onto the boot. Although Yamaha offers theier version over the counter at the dealer...don't buy it it won't fix (the boot hits the head).....Buy the one for it OE ONLY from the dealer..it's only 23.00 dollars and it will work as long as the last one. P.S. you only get one shot at a ew boot, they mke the wire from the coil too short to ty more...If yours was aready done, ou'll have to replace the coil under the hool (80.00) and do the gnd wire at the same time (they get rusty)
The reason why you guys are getting mixed results after changing plugs is because your shaking the connection to the plug
