Default Welding a bead

Curious i pulled my raptor oil tank off because it was leaking and I was looking at it and on the bottom not the drain plug but the other oil sucker plug.. but around that it leaks.. would welding a bead around this part of it be a cheap/ but good idea?? rather than getting a whole new aftermarket tank?? or will the weld just end up busting and what not??
thanks

well what kind of welder? You'd have to keep it cool so it wouldn't warp and hope the slack don't get inside you'd really have to clean it afterwards. Me personally i would try jb kwik weld first. If you decide to weld it you'd have to repaint it in order to get it's looks back i mean i could do it but i know alot of machinist that i'd get to do it instead.

I had the same problem with my oil tank cracking. The problem with running a bead would be the heat expansion that close to the oil uptake could cause the o-ring to not seat good when you put it back together. Mine was still under warranty and I got a new one from my dealer. If I were you, I would start watching ebay for a good aftermarket tank. Might be a good time to think about a larger capacity one.

I like my Pingry tank. Pingry Oil Tank My stocker cracked just as you're describing. I would take it to a good welder if you stay with the stocker. I don't see why they couldn't fix it. I just liked the idea of the extra oil, looks killer, and the cooling holes with the Pingry. I've been wanting to fix my stocker as a backup in case something happened to my Pingry, or my other Raptor's oil tank takes a dump.

Looks good to me. I like the heat sheild. I've never checked into that, but it is closer to the header than stock.
