Should I chrome or polish my side covers?
#1
I asked this in the Polaris forum but since I dont have many replies and I am taking it down tomorrow so I'll ask you guys since I know a lot of you guys are always on. I was wondering what you guys think. Im deciding on whether I want to polish or chrome my side covers. What are the pros and cons of each? For those of you guys that have polished or chromed side covers what problems have you had? Im just afraid the chrome will chip and peel off and Im afraid the polished covers will have to be polished frequently. I just want as close to maintenance free good long lastinig looks as possible. Thanks.

if you have cash then get them chromed, if you have a little time and elbow grease then polish them yourself, i polished mine but would have rather sent them to the chromer, but my polished ones still look good ..

The chrome will be mostly maintenance free. The aluminum will need to be polished often. The downside to chrome is that it holds in a LOT of heat. The downside to polishing is the polishing.

The heat issue was one of the things I was curious about. How often do you guys find yourself polishing the covers as general up keep? Im just not sure on what I want because price wise I can get it done for about the same amount. But after the last comment about the heat it is steering me towards polishing the covers instead...... anyone else have an opinion? Does it chip easily?

i give it a nice rub down more than often when i wash her, but it ain that much of a diffrence just dont let the get bad and they will stay nice..I also bought these rags that are greased with a polish and use those, they are by far the easiest and work the best, then use a old zip lock bag to save them cuz they are still usable

Well I personaly would not crome for these reasions. 1 it retains too much heat.2 the crome starts to crack after a coulple years or less with more vibration. The thing I'm starting to do now and allot of peaple is to polish till it looks crome and then clear coat it. this works well because you dont have to keep polishing it and also is harder to scrach.
