OK...I just bought a brand new Raptor. 2005 even. Today was the second day I rode it and it rode great for at least 30 minutes totalling maybe 1 hr ride time on it total. I shut it off and got off to talk to some friends. When I got back on I cranked it up and it would spit and sputter any time you gave it gas. I havent ridden it that hard and I dont understand what could cause this. Exhaust smells fine. Plug was only slightly carbonated. It does this in neutral and in gear. If I turn it up in neutral it will pop and get to a steady rhythm of pop pop pop pop pop, like it's misfiring somehow. Then once I let go it will backfire and go back to what sounds like a fairly even idle. I am sorry to get long-winded my first time on the board but I hope you all understand how frustrating this is. Just got the beast and I cant ride it. GRRRR. BTW if you give and solutions to my problem please try to be descriptive. Dont mean to be picky but I am still learning my way around my quad. the 05's are out?

 

The guy at the dealership said i got the first one...maybe he just sold me. either way. 04 or 05 doesnt matter...

 

It sounds like to me that you some how damaged your rev limiter or your reverse limiter switch is broken so that no matter what you do your quad has a 2000 rpm limit to it. Try doing the mod on Raptortranny.com with the rev limiter and see if that fixes the problem.

You can also detach and ground your rev limiter which is underneith your shifter with a 90 degree plastic peice cmoing off of it.

 

Make sure the parking brake is not on, and its fully disengaged, there is a microswitch in the perch. I'd bet a five spot thats what it is.

 

^^^yo warrior007. I owe you that 5 spot. Turns out I was trying to move the clutch lever in some to give me more room. When I did I went ahead and tightened down the bolt that holds the pbrake on. Apparently it was too tight. it wouldnt disengage and I missed that totally. Thanks bro and nice shooting.

I will finally ride mine tomorow I am so excited you have no idea. 4 days now with that thin in the garage. I cant wait to fire it up and move it out. I need to experience what you people speak of..
