Raptor Tech Guys...Piston Options...
There is a place here that sells race gas. It's relatively close, so that won't be too much of a hassle or problem. But I think the gain will be worth it. The 11:1 performs well, but 2-3 lenghts would put me infront of most of the competition. I'm planning on pushing the 686 as far as I can to see what I can get out of it. I haven't seen a higher comp. piston yet for the 686, and I can sell the 11:1 as it is, since it probaly only has 5hrs on it, if that.
I'm going to try the higher comp. piston and see where it goes from here. But I defintely understand your view. Race gas can be a pain to get in some places. It's definetly not at every gas station you come to.

I have a 12:1 piston and I believe it drops reliability dramatically over the 11:1. 13.5:1 would be ALOT of compression and I don't think it will be very reliable, to much compression is what screwed my engine over both times now. The HP gained isn't worth the reliability lost and the extra money spent, you won't notice alot of power difference from the 11:1 much either.

Since my name was brought up.
Any increase in compression will lessen the reliability imo. You have replaced the rod with Carrillo and had the crank balanced. In theory you should not have any problems with that area. I'd go 13.:5:1 imo.
The increase was noticable but I went with a top end cam at the same time. 1BadRaptor went from an 11:1 to a 12:1 at one time and picked up a few bike lengths just from that.
You should notice increased bottom end for sure.

I've went all out on the 686...with the exception of the low compression piston. I have the FCR's, and I did all the crank and rod work. So I'm not scared to go up to the 13.5:1. The piston will be here and installed within 10-14 days, so I'll let you guys know how it works out. I think the increase will be noticable because I'm going from a low comp 93 octane pump gas set up, to a 13.5:1(14:1) 110 straight race gas set up. I'm defintely looking forward to how it runs.

I can bet you that when you set this up and get it tuned right with jetting and all, you will have a smile from ear to ear!!!
I know I do..... hehehehehe.
Alky, I have never tried it but I sure do like how it runs alot cooler though.
