my piped 04 raptor vs stock 03 le

yoshi exhaust with dynojet kit (146/148) and kn air filter/airbox mod vs stock 03 le raptor
we raced 5 or 6 times then switched and raced a few more times
I am 220 lbs with all aftermarket skids and he is 160 lbs, I am a noob and he is fairly experienced.
we raced down a dirt rd
end results: I won once, tied a few times and he won the rest, when we switched, he won everytime.
one race, we were side by side and shifted to 3rd at same exact time, we accelerated evenly....and shifted to 4th and were even
another race, I got him in 1st 2 shifts and then even, won by a couple lengths
when he rode my quad, he smoked me by 6-8 lengths easy in 1st couple shifts...but then didnt pull any more
my conclusion was ....the pipe and jet and air intake mods allowed my raptor to really go in 1st 2 gears...but in 3rd gear and higher....didnt really help
definately more pep in lower gears. the difference in weight makes a big difference in performance when he was on my quad...he didnt gain any more lengths once I hit 3rd gear on his quad(makes me believe my mods only effect 1-2 gears)
does this seem about right, should I look into adjusting something(besides my diet)?

If you want high hp gains from a pipe, you need a full system. Sparks, CT, duncan, and lte will make a few more hp than the rest of the full systems out there. Yoshi is praised because of its good gains and versatility with the tec kits and end caps. The problem is that each of these costs money and may require rejetting for different caps.
Machine wise your bike should have had a decided advantage with 3-6 hp gains with a slip on, 8-11 hp gains with a full system; depending on airbox situations. A full system should have been enough to pull the extra weight ahead just about every time. I would look on improving your drag skills and perhaps changing your gearing to maximize the benefits of the pipe, depending on the kind of riding you usually do.
