first ride on my new 690 at the dunes
I just picked up my raptor thursday with a fresh build consisting of 11:1 piston/carillo rod/oversize exhaust valves(1mm)/lightened flywheel/valve springs/web cams/porting and a LTE dual exhaust and it performed much better than i expected.I didnt want to push it too hard the first day so i took it easy on the motor but i did make some runs up our comp hill and i was able to beat all but one very fast yfz who i was even with and a few fast banshees and i was not even close to pushing it all the way so i expect to do very well when it is fully broke in.I now have torque down low as well as top end and i am still on stock carbs and a stock cdi. Before this build i had a piston(102MM)and a pipe and that set up was pretty fast but i probably am about four quad lengths faster in 300 feet than i was then and with a cdi and some break in time i am confident that i can squeeze even a little more than that out of it.I suppose it sounds like i am bragging but that is not my intention i just wanted to share my first ride experience because it was so impressive. There were a couple of forum members there yesterday that saw the results that i mentioned and they may verify what i have stated. To those of you with very fast raptors what are your results against the fastest yfzs that you come across?

first ride on my new 690 at the dunes
Broke in my new 686 last weekend and spent all this weekend drag racing at Silver Lake dunes in MI. Here is my setup - 102mm Ross 10.75:1, Craycraft porting, Stage 1 Hotcam, stock rod , Edelbrock carb (23E needle), Yosh Pipe, VP U4 race gas.
Like you I was pleasantly surprised by the added power of the big bore/higher comp. Did not have any problems with any YFZs, beat alot of them with pipe/filter/lid off, even beat a 470 big bore YFZ. But he did have the stock swingarm so he said he was having trouble getting good starts.
Beat a 727 raptor running a 4.5" JTM extension, 12 paddle 22" haulers, and I think 12:1 comp. I could take him off the line (when I could keep the front end down) but he may have had more top end than me.
Beat a stock bore 11.5 or 12:1 Craycraft ported Raptor, Hotcam Stage2, with a +6 swingarm, 12 paddle 22" haulers. As the weekend went on he got it sorted out and it got pretty close. Just came down to who got the best start.
Beat every Banshee that was not a Drag specific setup. I had no chance against the 80-110 HP +12 swingarm beast. I love the taste of wet sand roost in the morning!
Got beat every time by a sweet DS650 with a purple frame. It belongs to DSTROYER I believe. He pulled me about every race by 1-2 quad lengths the entire length of the race. And his bomb wasnt even running 100%. I thing he is running 14:1 compression.
