I'm wondering the same thing. I'm wondering what the best mods for trail use are under $1000 are?

Loose the stock exhaust! A good aftermarket system and correct jetting will give VERY good gains. The is alot of debate of which exhaust system works best. I run a MBRP full race series and really like it.Sparks, Yoshi and Ct are in the top(most popular) also. As far as a jet kit dynojet and GYTR are fine and work well. Expect to spend $600 or so for a full exhaust and jet kit. A positive seal air filter set up is good too. I like the pro design if you want to run the airbox with the lid off (about $120). From ther the mods are endless!!!!! and can get EXPENSIVE!

If you ride trails, get skids first. After that, tires and offset rims. Now that I know how much of a difference it makes, I'd make suspension 3rd and engine mods 4th for a Raptor. Except in a straight line, it's hard to take advantage of more power until you get a little wider stance on a Raptor.

a rear arm skid plate will save your rear brake rotor if you ride trails

bark busters will save your hands

pipe/jet and airflow kit will give it a little more oomph

reverse on handlebars is great for conveniance

my favorite mod is probably the pipe, I like the way my bike sounds now plus it is faster

stickers are cheap and easy

suspension is most expensive mod and dont know how valuable it will be for your riding

new grips for comfort...same with bars

nerf bars for safety

too many mods too list and all have their purpose...you need to prioritize

Mandatory first mods are a rear skid and a pro-flo (or equiv). Welcome too the connection forums!

a cheap mod would be a 12T sprocket.

Jack pot!! Completely agree. After those two things I would then go with an aftermarket pipe. As others have said nerfs are VERY nice(my quads will always have them), and more offset wheels on the raptor are a GREAT help. And as Gary said, Welcome to the forums. It seems that most of the mods people do are test by what I call seat dynos with no real hard numbers attached to them. I'm very new to researching how I'm going to mod my '04 or '05 raptor, but I'm trying to gain all the knowledge I can so when I do I have a well rounded trail quad. Here's what I'm thinking would begin my mods to my raptor:

1) Full set of PRM 1/4" skid plates
2) Smallest front sprocket I can run without modifications
3) Largest rear sprocket I can run without modifications
4) Hand guards

That would complete the easy drivetrain protection and changes I'd like to make since I do a lot of slow speed rocky terrain.

As far as performance mods, from what I'm gathering I need to get a new exhaust, new airbox, and rejet it. The question is which setup is actually the best for trail riding. I like acceleration and could care less about top speed. I like a ton of low end grunt, and could care less what the top end does. I want to be able to run 93 octane pump gas with now trouble, and would love to find the ideal high compression piston for the standard bore to allow this to happen. Any suggestions woudl be greatly appreciated.

Chris
