Ok...let me call up factory Yamaha, Suzuki, & Honda & I'll ask their engine builders why every quad & bike I have ever bought from them & all of my friends bikes too(some of which break in their motors like you guys do) have alot of metal in the filter after break in. I'm not talking a clogged oil filter..just more the 1st time you change oil.

my thinken behind why his locked up is due to the lack of good engine cooling, and good pre-mix oil...synthetic oils werent invented back in that day, so they used mineral oil, which doesnt protect the engine as well as synthetic oil does. and another factor with that locking up...was probly his premix ratio...wasnt enough oil for that engine.

No, it was winter time, probably in the high 60's & we were both using Yamalube @ 32:1. I really think that he just got to anxious & didn't let the rings seat in properly. I think back then the manual said about 1/2 hr of easy break in, he let it warm up for about 5 min while we were looking over the rest of the bike & then he just went WFO for about 10 min then it seized. The good thing about riding back then was a bore job cost $15 & a piston kit w/gaskets was about $40!
