04 is bone stock and the 02 is fast... but it's on the stock gearing. The 01 has been geared down a bit. I think I am running a 12 tooth sprocket on it, but it'll climb anything no problem. The 01 had a +4 swing arm and has a new piston and cam. The 01, even though it has a lot of mods, is not any faster than my 02 that only has a pipe, filter, and jetting. After reading the posts about your jetting on your 686 kit, I think I'm going to check her jetting and see if that's the problem.

 

yeah jetting was a big issue there was sometimes we would get down there and it would act up and we would go searching asking everyone with a raptor if they had jets.. im running 12/40 havent been there on this setup though .. if thats not enough i will go to a 42 rear sproket.. they guy that built my bike has teh same thing done to his and he has 12/42 sprokets and he can run the drag hill not the face but the drag hill in 4th gear..

 

I try to get down to the dunes a few times a year, like to ride more frequently but life is busy, I have a big fat DS but want to go faster- any suggestions?

 

id think your first step would be an exhaust system a jet kit and a aftermarket filter and adapter.. then from there if ur power isnt satisfied either go with a big bore kit.. or mess around with sprokets.. messing around with them will utilize the power that ur bike is actually creating.. example.. my buddies piped and filtered banshee runs the face in 3rd.. i could (this was with stock sprokets..) run right next to him in second.. now that i have my lower sproket i can run past him in 3rd because i can get it there now..

 

You go to the dunes much? I bet the 686 is a sight to see on the big hill. We'll have to do a ride one of these days and you can show me some raptor power!

 

i go on occasion been about 10 times this year [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] heading down at the end of the month.. i usually dont shoot the hill much because the people i go with lack the power(they ride 400ex's) but now one of my buddies has a shee so yeah

I live in Midvale and try to get to the dunes as much as possible. Unfortunatly i have been down since easter this year got to get back soon. I ride a 85 suzuki lt250 with a honda CR500 motor. It is only for the dunes I dont even own anything but paddles for it

 

sounds killer yeah i didnt get much riding in on easter.. my raptor rev limiter was buggin out but i thought it was jettting so i went around the whole time searching for jets. but i did sit at the base for a while and watch that k&t sand dragster runnin straight nitro.. that was awesome..

 

i missed the k&t dragster. we camped at oasis so I only got to the mountain a few times over the weekend
