guide to mod engine on raptor

I too have been debating going to the 686 kit on my raptor, or should I got as big as 730. Money is a small issue, but if the 730 is really worth the extra $$$ to do it then I'm game. Any insight will be helpful.

The 686 will provide a lot bigger bang for your buck. You are talking about hitting almost 65 hp for about 2k-2500. The next ten hp will cost you another 2k easily, and the machine will be less practical for recreational riding anywhere except dunes. If you make a fast 727/730 you will have very high compression and most of your power will come up top, meaning the torque is much less prominent. You can build a mild 727 with more midrange and that will run on pump gas, but its not really worth all the money at that point because you will not have the same hp gains.

You can make a 686 very fast. Add carbs into the equation and its a whole new world. Unless your ambitions are to beat built banshees and 470 yfzs on alky, I cant imagine you'd be dissapointed with a 686.

I have a 2003 Stock Raptor motor I am going to be sending off to Bob for a 740 kit, maybe I will be offing my 690 soon that I just had built 2 months ago. So, if anyone is interested PM me and I will let you know what I will let it go for.
The 690 I have now runs pretty sweet and have video from last 4th doing real good on the drag strip at Pismo beach. I have ran against YFZ's and 250r's and came out ahead on all but one YFZ on alky. Has some real good torque on this build. Had the (Carrillo)rod, piston and crank balanced as well.

You should be able to get a good price for your 686 RaptorOwner. I sold my CR Signature 686, with stock rod, for $2100 on ebay. Pick up a junk motor somewhere and let Bob work his majic, it's cheaper than tearing apart a perfectly good 686.
Voodoothenoob - A high compression 686 is good enough for 99% of the people, the other 1% don't care how much it costs to be the fastest. Figure out which category you fall in and spend accordingly. If you're a drag racer, NOS is an excellent way to make power without spending a fortune.

I have an almost brand new stock 2003 Raptor motor. I am waiting on a quote from Bob now. Another thing I was looking at too was the setup by KMS>>>>

I think NOS might be my ticket....good for the occasional race...I might actually be able to beat a stock raptor w/it...lol
any downsides to NOS?
would a 686 beat a stock engine with NOS?
