2004 Yamaha Breeze Problems
#11
You wouldn't happen to know the valve spec would ya RaptorOwner? My daughters Breeze does the exact same thing. Fouls out the plug at times, and sometimes it idles low, other times it wants to take off even with the brakes on. Do you know what the dealer did to the carb?

Ok guys. I got word back last Friday that the VALVE HEAD BROKE OFF of this thing and caused the engine to seize up. This is why it wouldn't start (actually it broke the starter as well). Dealer is looking into Yamaha "good will" on this thing. Well, obviously the valve(s) were out of wack causing it to foul up constantly.
Piece of junk. Don't buy one of these things, nothing but trouble.
Anyone got any suggestions on what exactly I should say to ther Yamaha rep if they won't help pay for thie repairs on this thing??? Besides go over the history of the problems?

A few of the times yes it was under warranty. The last few times it was not. But it is the same problem as far I can tell.
They have had this thing a week with no calls to me.
I'm betting the Yamaha Rep will not be willing to give much on this. I hope I'm wrong.
If anyone has any insight as to what other ammunition I can use to state my case, please, I'm all ears.

Does the lemon law apply to atv's ?? If you had it in several times under warranty for the same problem with no solution it may be worth looking into. If they won't fix it you could consult an attorney or call your states attorney generals office and they may be able to give you your options.

Well I just heard back from them. Yamaha is willing to pat $275 of parts. I have to pay $475 in labor.
I am not satisfied with that at all.
I called Yam myself and she said that it is out of warranty and no defects were found that caused the break. She said to take it up with the dealer. I explained to her that the machine was barely ridden and by kids when it is WITH a throttle control. They don't care.
So I called the dealer back with my plea. Explained that the valve was surely causing the fouled up plugs.
Waiting to hear back.
This sucks. What a piece.
I may need to contact legalities on this one...but there is no way to prove that the valve caused the plug fouling.
I think I'm screwed here.

write a letter to the president of yamaha USA. find out who it is and address it to him by name, not just title. don't rant, explain everything sequentially and factually.be polite and professional and try to keep it brief, but include all important details. back it up by attaching each work order from dealer. if you don't have them, ask dealer for a print out, or demand it. explain to Yamaha their dealer is poor and you paid top $$ for a Yamaha product because you expect them to stand behind thier products and you believed them to be superior products. If not, you could have paid half the $$ for a cheap Chinese brand and got better performance and service. you should be paying ZERO $$ out of pocket. anything more simply will not do.
I would complain that this dealer doesn't represent their company very well (that's a fact.. your experience here is a joke. all these kind folks who have replied to you could have done a valve adjustment and carb tweak and had it running better than your dealer. plus, doesn't it seem odd that they all diagnosed the problem based on your description, yet your dealer couldn't find his a$$ with 2 hands and a map?). they charged you a PDI, and didn't have it set up right from day 1. Yamaha should or will force your dealer to correct it. the crummy thing here is your dealer will be bitter and you'll never want to go back to them either. your relationship with them is toast. hope there's another dealer fairly close. thing is, if you're factual, you come across as credible. if dealer is upset (because Yamaha will confront them with everything you say), you can honestly support everything you allege. the moment you rant or exaggerate, they stop listening and think you're just a nut.
does your state have small claims court? that is a relatively easy, informal and inexpensive legal remedy to your problem. your chances seem excellent to win in small claims. Plus, they (dealer/yamaha) wouldn't want it to get to that.
don't threaten, be factual and ask them to right their wrong. it's worked for me.you MUST let us know how this washes out.
BTW, don't blame the quad, it's a great unit. I know you're frustrated, but that should all be directed at your lazy dealer who wanted to charge for, but not do, a decent PDI.
