Wow, must be real fun riding a piped quad with an extra 4.5 on the swing arm
Anyways Vodoo said go with a 686, I would suggest maybe a drop in cam(stage 1, unless you want to change valve springs), 11:1 piston, maybe a port and polish. To get 686 cc's you have to bore it to 102mm's i believe, which leaves you with no more bores on that sleeve. I would suggest a 101mm piston just because a few extra cc's will only make a small diference. It would save you money if you ever need another bore.

If you have no aftermarket cam, port and polish is a waste of money. The very popular Hot Cams (no core charge) stage 1 requires no spring change, and porting is not recommended, from the builders I have talked too. Stage 2 requires stiffer springs and porting helps out. Contrary too what you may read here recently, porting is the last element too be added too a modded 4 stroke engine. Huge amounts of power are available through porting on a 2-stroke, but a 4-stroke does not see the massive gains in porting. It's the icing on the cake for a thumper. $350-400+ dollars does not justify 3-4 horses.

do away with the airbox, or at least open it up. sixsixt made a cool air intake system that is worth every penny. If you ride alot and plan to put a piston in, i would suggest that you stay away from JE. JE has made a few running changes and they still fall apart at a higher rate than they should IMO. Some builders swear by them, but i have seen a pile of busted ones first hand. For a piston i would suggest a Ross or CP. Stage one drop in cam is great. I would skip the advanced degree timing key. Non O Ring chain is good for a little extra free power. Aftermarket CDI box will do nothing for you at this point. You might try some oxegenated fuel in the 92 octane level You can tweak on the schocks and tires to get max hook up. You might try a 1/2 inch spacer plate in front of the carbs. If you do that you might as well clean up the inside of the carb boots to make it match a little better. You could also try a set of turbonators in the carbs ( 40 bucks) and a nology wire. ( i could not give you a desicion on the last 2 of making more power though) In theroy they should but in reality??????
