Default High Octain question.............plus oil question

I have a 2000 model Yamaha Blaster with a Boysen Rad Valve with high performance reeds, bored 40 over, with the stock carb jetted up, and a Pro Circuit Pipe. I am also running the stock plug, NGK B8ES and the stock mixer, with the air box cover removed. I have always ran 93 pump octane in it. I was wondering How high octane I could run in it and still be safe? Need info.

Also, I have always used the Yamalube 4 oil for the gear box, in 20W40. I have recently found a shop that sells the Yamalube 4 10W30. Which should I use? The temp. hear is always around 95'Ffor the highs and around 75'F for the lows. Need info.

I'm not sure you wanna go much higher. It would really just be a waste anyway going higher than 93. You're not really going to notice a big difference if you ran CAM2 or something like that.

I know a lot of guys who run CAM2 in 2-stroke 2-wheeler MX bikes and swear to it. Others just use 93 and a good 2-cycle oil.

Either way I'd personally stick with pump fuel.

As far as oil, I would just use the one you've been using unless you've had problems with it. The lighter oil won't hurt anything though.

The blaster takes 10w30. It says it in the manual.

Unless you are increasing compression then there is no need for higher octane fuel. When you start to hear knocks, or pings then its time for a high octane.

For a good 2 cycle oil, u could try boat oil...its highest quality for boats and it works great!

The only time to run a higher octane is if the engine has more compression and actualy needs it, otherwise it will cause it to run slower since it doesnt burn as fast.

For both the 2cycle mix and tranny oil I always recomend to run a quality synthetic oil since they burn cleaner in the gas mix (ratios as high as 100:1 are possible) and protect better in any application plus they dont break down from the higher heat we see in our atvs.

Just be carefull cause a lot of stuff thats called synthetic is nothing more than a std oil mixed with syn.

Thanks for the info. I think I have heared of CAM2 but not for sure. What is the oct. rateing of it?

It does call for 10w30 but I was wondering if the 20w40 or the 10w30 was better?

I also use Yamahalube 2 for the gas.

Also, should I stick with the stock plug, use a different one, or go to a hotter or colder plug than the stock NGK B8ES?

93 octane is plenty unless you increase compression. Think about using a quality 2 stoke oil like Amsoil. The Dominator and Interceptor oils are the best money can buy! For more info and a free product catalog go to:

Amsoil or Amway

Hmmm may as well buy your oil from mcdonalds

Just cant understand why they use that method to get their product out etc cause it really "cheapens" it.

440EX026, Amsoil has nothing to do with Amway and never did! Amsoil was founded by A.J. Amatuzio and they've been in buisness for over 30 years making in my opinion the best synthetic oils on the market today. You use your oil and I'll use Amsoil.
