I wanted to know if my rear brakes on my Blaster were just not adjusted right or if it is the fact that there mechanical discs. I can stand on the brake pedal and it will most of the time not even lock up the tires im pretty sure there adjusted right because there isnt too much freeplay. Is it just the fact that because there not hydraulic you can't put enough pressure on them. If so that is pathetic because i could lock up my old lt 80's rear brakes which were mechanical drum and im still the same wieght. As for the front brakes I think there a heck of a lot better than the rear ones I can lock them up no prob. The only thing i dont like about the drums is the frequent adj., mud gettin into them, and the feel of the lever. but other than that i think the stopping power is fine considering i can do endos on surfaces where they wont just skid

i just bought a 2001 blaster and the brakes suck no matter what you do until you get about 350 dollars and buy you a a kit from trenga who sells a rear hydraulic brake kit for blasters, or i heard that the kasea skyhawk 150 has a blaster frame on it and they have hydraulic brakes that will fit and i think they are about 200 dollars but i am not sure how to contact them or the reliability of them but you can get a hold of trenga by calling 814-231-3884 or they have a website and the adress is www.trengaracing.com and i am about to buy me a set from them to i also heard there bakes are an awesome color i belive metallic red. well good luck

DO NOT buy the Trenga brake kit. I had one, it doesn't work any better than stock. Go to my page for more info on there brake: http://blasterville.freeservers.com/trenga.htm

If you want good brakes on the Blaster you need to build a custom kit. It's pretty easy to do and cost's much less than the Trenga kit.

I have a 2000 Blaster and about 8 months after having it I had the same problem where no matter what I did I couldn't get the rear brakes to work. I took them apart and the brake pad was seized up inside the capalier housing. It was just stuck in there and couldn't move. I had to beat it out with a hammer and punch.. Also the ratchet part was all gummed up with sand and mud. Try cleaning that out and regreasing the ratchet part. Mine are working pretty good now but I'm sure I'll have to keep them cleaned out on a regular basis.

do a search on the tech page, they suggest using a more aggressive type pad.

Blaster brakes work fine when adjusted properly. The adjustment process is a little tricky. If your ratchet components are in good condition and you are following the manuals adjustment steps, don't be surprised if you have to depress the brake lever 20-30 times before you get the proper adjustment. Don't forget to tighten the locking nuts.
