How many times to flush water out?
#1
I am having quite the time getting all the water out of the engine on my boys Raptor 50. I have changed the oil 10 times now and it is still alittle murky, anybody have any suggestions.
I know when my friends Bronco went under it only took 2 changes to get it clean again, is a wheeler different?
I was wondering how all the water had gotten in there until I found the crankcase vent hose was so low so now I rerouted it up to his handle bars and this should not be a problem in the future but I would like to get the oil clean again.
For awhile during oil changes it was blowing blue smoke but now it is not. Any ideas on that one too?

Water settles out of oil. You should be able to loosen the drain plug after it sits a day or two and the water will come out before the oil. An old school trick is to replace the engine oil with hydraulic oil and run the engine for a bit and then drain it and put engine oil back in. The water mixes with the hydraulic oil and comes out when drained. I wouldn't mess with doing that since you've already changed the oil so much.

Thanks Hayseed,
I had it sitting for about 4 to 5 hours and when I pulled the plug it looked like he had white paint in there. It has been setting since noon yesterday and I will give it another day or so to let it settle to the bottom.

Fill it to the top with diesel . I mean over fill it . Dont try to start it Once you have it full lift it on it's side tip it as far over as you can then back on it's wheels let it sit over knight drain it when you have the drain out lift it tip it and then back on it's wheels
If you have acompressor blow it out and then refill it . with oil
Once you get it rid of the milky oil let it get good and hot most of the water should disapate up threw the crank vent tube .
Good luck

I only had to change my oil three times when I dipped my Recon in a creek. I'm just curious if you got the water out of all the other areas like exhaust, filter area, etc. Or did the water only go in the vent hose? 10 oil changes should be more than enough. It doesn't take much water to make it look cloudy. Maybe you should pick it up and shake it dry. j/k

coyote,
The wheeler never actually went past the air intake, I am thinking it was sucking it up thru the crank vent tube. I was talking to my neighbor he was explaining how the motor gets hot and when it cools rapidly from a water crossing it can turn the motor into a vacumn and suck water up the hose. That is why he has routed his tubes up to his handle bars and I am thinking that must be the reason all my big quads have it around the gas tank or just below the handlebars.
This sound plausible?
No water in the airbox and muffler never submerged also no leaks around the engine casing, at least I hear no hissing or see any oil spots around the case.
