Default Gearing?

I am geared 13/40 stock with a 300 dollar Sidewinder setup...i dont really want to go to a 41 or 42 in the rear only because it will run me a bill50 just for the rear sprocket being that it is TIMoly... the front is much cheaper and i am considering dropping to a 12.... Will i be hit on top end speed or will i only loose 8-10mph...

Will my gears be rediculously short???

Should i eat it and just go buy the 41 for the rear like i want to do...

just drop the front tooth sproket a tooth.. youlll notice a big diff in accel.. not as big for the speed.. i barely noticed the differnce in top speed when i put it on.. plus it is way cheaper.. and its like having a 13/43 gearing.. but its 12/40 or sumthing like that.

Before you go spending big bucks buy some cheap steal sprockets and see what you like.

My thoughts exactly. Even cheap sprockets hold up great as long as they are steel. Just go down 1 in front would be my opinion. 1 tooth more in the rear would not even be noticable.

You know like Gary said one tooth in the back would be miniscule I would go two at the very least...

I mean think about it...

13/40 = 3.08 12/40 = 3.33
13/41 = 3.15 12/41 = 3.42
13/42 = 3.23 12/42 = 3.5

Just try it with the cheapos and take it from there.

Default Gearing?

Thanks alot u guys, i KNOW i can go buy wut u say due to the experience you both have...

I am going to go with the Sidewinder 12 tooth front...i start getting shaky around 80ish...therefore i could afford to loos my top end some only because the only time i really top it out is on the road!
I dont think my front tires are balenced that well i am runnin the .190's with XCR's...and on the road its just to unstable, i may have a loose front hub or somethin that i outta check!

How much top end will i loose, with the 12 front...8-10mph....will my gears like 1 and 2 be useless????(rediculously short)

I know you are going to just say try different gearing but i think i will be happy with just doin the front and to tell u the truth actually i knowticed a difference with the 41 in the rear......i could launch way better in 2nd, and my 1st gear was really short, it was like a creeper gear lol

Like i said thanks for ur suggestions,

I run 12/42, I tried just the 12 up front but it never seemed quit right. So I started playing with the rear and that made a night and day difference. You talk about loosing top end, you loose some top end but you power to the top so much faster. The only real way to see what you will like is to play with it.
