Default Need a good Banshee Sand Dunning Engine....

Hey Guys,

I'm looking to get the best all around Banshee engine... I have a 15K drag bike, but you don't ride a drag bike around the dunes, you take it to competiotion hill and race it, then you take it straight back to camp. I need and engine that has lots of power, but isn't just for dragging up hills. If you guys know of any websites I can check out please post them here. If you haven't already caught this, let me just say it...

"Money is not an object"

Thanks,

RingoStar

Concentrate more on handling than power. Get some new shocks, wider a arms, +2 or +4 inch swingarm, +2 axle, mild port, stock compression (maybe a little bit more), no bore, stronger clutch, and find a good set of pipes that give ALL AROUND power. My bro is running a set of FMF's that are absolutly great for all around power. Stay away from CPI's or Toomies, but I hear the new T6 Toomies give better low end you might wanna look into those, anyone?

With a setup like that you should be ready to rip the dunes up. You'll still have tons of power but it'll be usable power, not straight line power. I assume you can figure out what brands to get yourself, there is so many out there I don't wanna list them all. Good luck building that Shee!

I have everything I need on the bike except for pipes, carbs, and the engine... For pipes I would either get Pro Cirtus, or FMF SST's, but engine and carbs I'm still thinking about...

If you really must get carbs (you wont really need them) you could always try the 2 into one and get a little more bottom end. Also I'd stay with the Makuni brand, if you switch over the Keihen it'll be a B*TCH to jet, and you wont have any idea where to start!

My brother just got rid of a set of Fatty's for a set of CPI in frames. This Banshee already has mild porting. The CPI's are night and day difference compared too the Fatty's. The CPI's do loose a bit of bottom end power compared too the Fatty's. The Fattys leave too much top end power on the table too even think about using them. The T-5's, T-6, and the SST pipes are all close power wise...except the new T-6 pipe picks a couple of horses in mid range and signs off early too (not a good thing). The CPI's kick a$$! Jetting went from 290 mains up too 360!

Lets not get off topic here... I'm just looking for some advise for a great engine... I'll be running it in the Sand, so have that in mind... Everything else is secondary, the quad is as good as the engine... So help me out with getting a great engine together

Id suggest doing a 4mm stroker motor with mild porting for a banshee. I run a 7mm that was an absolue BLAST to dune on. The torque is incredible and really doesnt feel like any banshee motor you've ever ridden, until of course you crack that throttle and the CPI's start singin. YOu can lug it way down in the rpms and give it gas, and surpsie, it will pick up rpms. ON a fast dune ride, im in 3rd or 4th gear exlusively because there is so much torque, you dont have to keep shifting to stay in the power. The reason I say 4mm is that i had my 7mm and it was pretty good on gas, until I had it fully ported, now it sucks the gas, making it hard to truly dune on... So either a 4 or 7mm is the ticket for a dune bike that yo can take out to China wall or to comp hill and be succesful in both places..

First of all, It is my personal opinion that for a good all around pipe it doesnt get any better than the T-5 Toomeys as they have great bottom end and a great top end pull too. A great duning motor for me would be T-5's, cool head with the tightest pump gas chamber, +4 on the timing, a good midrange port job, a 2 into 1 intake setup with a single 36pwk Keihin carb, and a good set of reeds. There again this is just my .02, everyone has their own thing.

A stroker motor will give you the most torque out of any mod you can do. IMHO T-5's have as much bottom end as CPI's, but no where near as much top end. Pluys he said he has some money to spend. A stroker motor is money well spent. Figure about $1000 with crank...
