Ramsey Winch Installation on '04 Grizzly
#1
I purchased a Ramsey ATV 3000 Winch with Manual Handlebar Rocker Switch for my 2004 Yamaha Grizzly 660. I have the winch mount and winch installed, but have not done any of the wiring. Quite frankly, I think I may be in over my head on this one, as I'm no electrical engineer and the "instructions" are little more than a schematic. I'm concerned with proper location of the solenoid, and with how the wires are run and attached to the ATV to avoid any chance of them catching on something as I ride.
Does anyone have some good mechanical/electrical prowess, and maybe a bit of experience self-installing a Ramsey winch, who would be willing to provide some direction/pointers?
I contacted Ramsey, and their only comment was that they couldn't possibly create step-by-step procedures for every ATV out there.
Thanks a lot.

The dealer installed my warn winch. They put the solenoid in the bottom left side of the tool box and ran the wires out threw the side of the tool box (seal them up with silicone) and all the way up the left side with the rest of the wires from the CDI box. They tapped into power off of the ignition switch, so the winch only has power with the key on. (Not sure which wire) They tapped into the ignition under the cover that is under the front rack between the fenders. If you wanted to you could probably put the solenoid under this cover as well depending on how big it is. It would save room in your tool box.

My dealer had me remove my front rack and the front cover and mount the contactor next to the air intake opening. My wires were all color coated so hooking them up was easy. I ran the wires along the frame rail with the rest of the wires and used plastic tie wraps. The whole install took maybe two hours.
