Default Is this normal on a YFZ?

I have a week old 04 YFZ with about a tank of gas run through it. Old riding buddy came over tonight to take a look at it and check it out. I started it up to warm it up while we were talking. (I always warm up the engines on everything I own before running them hard) It idled for about five minutes or so...give or take a minute. It was dusk outside so there was very little light. I looked down at the headpipe at it was BRIGHT orange. I mean flippin hot now. I realize and understand how water cooled engines work. I've owned enough three wheelers, dirt bikes, and quads to have seen it all. I've never seen one do this.

Anyone else have this happen?

Buck

I've never seen my ATV do this, but i have seen a Honda Foreman or however you spell it do this when it's been ran like a mother...

Mine's an 01 and driving @ night ive never seen this.

I'd checking your radiator and plugs and stuff it might be a lil messed up if it's idling red hot.

normal for idleing temps to make the headers redhot?

that's a bit sketchy :-/

Since it's new i wouldnt worry about it.

I'll idle mine when it gets back from Yamaha and see what it does @ night.

Don't worry about it, it's PERFECTLY NORMAL for a YFZ to do that, along with the Raptor. You can make it better on a stock bike but it will always glow on idle and theres nothing you can do about it. They come a little lean from the facory (which doesn't help the glowing) just jet it up to a 45 slow jet (pilot), 168 main, and bring it up one on the needle. You should be running pretty dang good after that and will pick up a couple ponies and reliability from it! Have fun with your YFZ!

those jetting specs are what i run with my HMF and Intake... how can that work with a stock quad and be running mint??!?!?!!?
but like he said... thats normal... but letting it idle for 5 mins is probably to long... after 1-2 mins or so the enigine is nice and hot!

That is the jetting I run with mine. 168 main, 45 pilot, clip on #5 stock needle. EHS Racing airbox lid and baffle removed. Seems to be jeted perfectly this way at ~1400 ft. Never seen the head pipe glow bright red yet at this setting.
