Default Burning oil?

Hey all,
Im still new to riding and such, just got these bikes new. Anyways when I start them (cold) they smoke for about 10 seconds then stop. When I was running them the other day opened up, I noticed smoke again at about 40 mph. maybe faster not sure. Anyways, is this normal? The reason I ask is that if it isnt, they are still under warranty. Thanks a ton!

Did you allow the motor to break in before you panic. Allow at least 25 hours, mabe more because the motor is brand new.

Yeah let it go for at least 25 hours, after that I would start to worry.

The way I was told to break mine in was to run it as hard as you want but not for extended periods of time. Run it for while, get it real hot, then rest it for a while and let it cool down real good. This has somthing to do with the hot and cold cycles of a brand new engine. With a rebuilt engine you don't have to this.

Default Burning oil?

ahh i see thanks for the tips! I got another question. I looked at the air filter and it was dirty so am wanting to clean it. Read to use soapy water is one way so i took it out and am soaking it in soapy water. Will this work?

First, read the owners manual on how to break in your motor, yamaha knows best how to break in their motors. Regarding cleaning your foam filter, get some foam filter cleaner and foam filter oil, for example PJ1 makes both. Ive tried the soap and water versus the PJ1 solvent, the solvent method is easier and cleans better than soap and water.

Everyone seems to have a different way to break stuff in. Just want to make sure everything is running ok. I did pull my plug and it is black so it seems things might be running a bit rich as well.
