YOUR raptor problems
#1
Ive been reading a lot of threads with people claiming to have one problem after another on raptors. I have a raptor and havent had a thing go wrong with it. For the ones who claim to have problems, whats so wrong? It makes me want to sell it off after reading so much about them. Glad my banshee is so trusty

raptor is an awesome quad, i would never trade it. but the only complaint i have is once you start putting parts on them, it seems that teh carb boots just do not want to stay on. an easy solution is to buy 50 cent utility clamps to replace the weak stock ones. i did this, but i was in a rush, and the boot wasnt on strait and i tightened the clamp too tight and it ripped my boot, so i had to spend 80$ to get the UPP boots. thats my only compaint, along with the slow/wide geared reverse and limiter, and MY reverse light burned out to a very dull light ina few short weeks after purchase. thats all

I think it's people being wayyy to picky on how they think the quad should be...or lack of knowledge.
After 2001 the Rappys have been pretty dang reliable. The most complaints I hear is pointed towards the ergos and/or handling and NOT the reliability, if that puts your mind at ease. The Rappy sits a little high and a little short which makes it slightly tippy and wheelie prone. Amatuers at riding will complain about these problems ALOT because of their lack of knowledgle on how to ride and compinsate for these minute problems, so they get mad and bit*h and eventually get rid of the thing from sheer frusturation. I agree Yamaha did design it a little off but it's fairly cheap to fix (considering the price of the bike) and with a little extra practice pretty easy to control.
I haven't heard major consecutive reliability complaints besides the starter clutch about the Rappy since 2001 so I think they are pretty dang reliable.
My carb boots popped off once and I never had a starter clutch problem (but I replaced it just in case). All in all my Rappy has stayed together well...I tend to looks past my 686 engine troubles hehe not quite Yamaha's fault there

like it was said before... the one ways and the 2001 tranny were major issues with everyone! i replaced my gears with a forton gearset which still allowed me to keep the 01 gear ratio and no problems yet! my latest problem was a spring broke and banged around in one of the cam valleys and now i have a whole the size of a half dollar in my cylinder head! I havent yet decided whether to fix the problem or part the machine out and start over! i never had the carb problem because i run a cnc intake boots and fcr's! but other than the tranny problem i havent had any yamaha based problems!

I occasionally ride the 02 raptor that i have. Its all stock and really havent had any problems with it, just normal maintanence and one pain in the *** oil change procedure, but its not too bad. To be reading all of the problems makes me want to put that thing in the trader and forget about it, just makes me feel like im going to be riding around on a moneypit sooner or later. I also picked up a 2001 raptor, the tranny was upgraded however the starter was not, and it makes some winding noises so honestly havent even touched it since i bought it. I was going to replace it and drive it around, but like i said after hearing all the probs and the "oh man i cant wait to get rid of it" well it makes me uneasy and im sure it certainly does that to a lot of other people.
