Default Some thoughts on Nitrous

Now I have no intention of starting a flame war or anything, I'm just curious what my fellow atv riders think about Nitrous.

Personally I believe that unless you have a lot done to your bike and are searching for that extra kick, nitrous is less than acceptable. When you are running good times and want a boost, fine. But when you have a basically stock machine and throw a nitrous kit on it, I feel that that is taking away from the sport. If you cant beat them or at least come close without juice, you dont need to be running it.

I just feel like its not a real upgrade to a machine unless you are running structured drag races and everyone else is running it too. I dont really want to call it cheating, because thats not what it is. But its something similar in my eyes.

I dont mean to **** anyone off or come down on those who run it. I just wanted to get the opinons of others on this subject.

The power adder discussion/debate will go on forever. I have used power adders on vehicles before and am considering nitrous at some point for the YFZ.

I personally feel it's all good. If a guy takes me out racing up the hill and he's got a blue bottle, well fine. If I race another Mustang and get killed and the guy's got a centrifugal supercharger, well fine. If I have a jones to go as fast as possible on "motor" and build to suit that's my prerogative, albeit in many cases more expensive and less reliable.

I have witnessed 2 identical machines running the same nitrous system racing up the big hill, one of them cleaning the clock of the other. You still have to tune with power adders, and can melt down, so there're no guarantees. Stock machine with nitrous? Why not!

Exactly, why not?

I can ride my bike all day long and have the rideability of a stock machine, but then I want to go fast, just crack the bottle and be fast (well, against most things, lol). Money is money, and I spent a lot of my hard earned cash on my system. If you don't like me beating you with my nitrous, then go spend the same amount of money on your engine and try to keep up!

I dont spend my money on it because it is useless in the ama on a flattrack. Thats why I need power all the time. You dont see any mx riders hitting the juice to make triples.

When I spend 700 bucks on my bike, it will keep that performance until it needs to be rebuilt. With nitrous its only good while the bottle lasts.

It is all a matter of opinion. I have used nitrous on about every thing i have owned with a motor (except my weedeater, lawnmower, etc etc.). Nitrous is the most cheap and easy way to get horsepower. I can ride all day and when I need to race something that is faster on the motor all I have to do is open the bottle. Yes it does suck when you run out but that is just how it is. Nitrous on a stock motor is great you just have to know when to stop putting bigger pills in it. A good comparison is my buddies 03 ds650, he spent about 1500 or so give or take a few dollars for some minor motor work (piston, cams etc) we also put it on alcohol and it runs good, real good. But when I turn my bottle on he doesnt stand a chance, now when im out it is all him, and I only have about 400 in my whole kit including 3 bottles. So to me yea nitrous is the only why to go whether if you motor is stock or not.

Well I plan on getting a nitrous kit for my Rappy, but it isn't to race anyone, I don't really like the whole idea od drag racing, or racing to make your ego bigger, I am planning on using it for hill shooting.

NOS is rough on your engine though. Especially a stock one.

No nitrous isnt hard on an engine. It can be if used improper. But so can every other power adder. If it is used and tuned right it wont hurt a thing. Nitrous only hurts motors when 1: to much nitrous for components (piston rod etc etc). 2: not enough fuel, caused a lean condition and caused detonation which is the majority of the problems with an inproper tuned system. 3: to much fuel it can also cause detonation. Other then that there isnt any problems with using it on a stock motor or a motor that is just built for n20.
