I have a younger brother that just got a 2000 Banshee 2 months ago. He rides fairly hard, but nothing Outrageous like 10 foot air or anything. My first question is.... one of his front wheels' bearings seem to be going already . The center Hub nut (with cotter-pin) is tight, but the wheel can be felt knocking with a slight loseness when pushing and pulling sideways on it by hand. The only thing I can think of would be the bearings going already. Can this be possible so quickly ? Its brand spankin new.

The second question is....he discovered the other day, the the Rear Shock cylinder resevoir and spring, can be moved back and forth , from left to right. It seems really lose, and spins a couple inches left and right if you twist it by hand. The cylinder and the spring all move around the shock pretty easily. He says he tried to tighten it, but it was tight as hell, just that maybe the bushing on the bottom was shot. Im no Banshee expert, so thats why Im asking you folks. First, are his front wheel bearings going already in your best guestimation, and what should he do with the rear shock. Thanks in advance.....I appreciate it.

Im not sure but these may be because of the dealers assembly process, take it back and make them fix it.

The rear shock does wiggle to the left and right a bit on my 99 banshee as well. I've heard this from others as well, so I wouldn't worry about it.

The shock movement "swivel" is perfectly normal. The top and bottom shock bolts have cone shaped bushings with rubber washers that allow this movement. Therefore, the shock will not bind if the rear swingarm has some flex on a really hard hit. Don't worry about this!

As far as the front wheel bearing is concerned, are you sure you have the front nut on tightly? I would remove the cotter pin, remove the nut and inspect the shaft that is sticking out. Also, inspect the inside of the front hub and see if it is loose. Grease both up with a thick, marine grease and reinstall. I'll bet your problem disappers!

Good luck!

Thanks a million guys. Rob, Ill try that first thing in the morning. Hopefully, it does disappear. I was kinda skeptical on the bad bearing already....so maybe it just needs a lookin at and an re-assemble with some grease. ( if it was mine, I would have done that already but its not...so thats why I asked here ) Thanks again.
