Default Clutch problems

Im trying to put together my 91 LT 250R and I just need to get the damn clutch working now. I got the cover on and it feels like it pulls the clutch and I can shift into gear but as soon as I do that, it jerks forward and dies. Im thinking its not pulling the clutch enough but I dont know how to fix this. I already tried adjusting the cable on the clutch cover and on the handlebars but I cant get it to pull any more, help me out.

I took my LT outside and pushed started it and it would run, but if I pull the clutch it doesnt do anything. I can feel it pulling something because the lever is stiff. What I found out after I pulled the clutch cover off was that the hub has a broken thread and the previous owner just used a longer bolt. Can the broken clutch hub cause this? I bought a new hub and basket for $269. Any suggestions?
