Default removing gasket

i just pulled apart the bottom end off my beartracker and now before i have to put it back together i have to remove all the gasket residue on the mating surfaces.. i used carb cleaner and really fine steel wool and it worked realy good but i was wondering if it would hurt the surface . i use it lightly. and does anybody have any other methods of removing gasket besides a rozor blade. thanks in advance

I like a putty knife better than a razor blade if there's room, less chance to gouge into aluminum.
