Big Bear 2x4 or Wolverine????????
#41
If you are only comparing the 2wd bear to the wolverine there really is not many issues. Even when pulling heavy loads the wolverine will probably be evenly matched (with the bear) due to its 4wd. Sure the bear is low geared, but it will only pull as much as the maximum traction of the rear tires will allow. As for running through thick brush, I'd recommend getting the wolverine with a optional front rack. Then you should add cv gaurds and a skid plate. The wolverine will kill a 2wd bear in the mud, on tight trails, open roads, sand, and pretty much wherever else you can think of. The bear may have an advantage in ride comfort.
As for buying used:
Don't be scared of a used machine. See the below list in my signature. I've only bought 2 bikes new. You are better off buying a machine in near mint condition and saving 2000+ dollars You may even find one with all the mods you want. This is a big savings as well.
And a final word of advice: Pay cash for your bike. Don't tie yourself to a note.

Ended up getting the big bear 2x4 04 model. It was $4000 out the door. It was a family decision, and I think a great one. I knew I would like it,it fits well. My wife can ride it and my son will be able to in a few years. Thanks for all the info.

Congratulations! They are very reliable machines and am sure it will serve you well. Have a great time riding and let us know how it does and how it responds to the mods you wanted to do to it.
Ride safe and keep the rubber side down.
