Skoolboy, I paid $6400 out the door including 8% tax and all the other junk, and the warn plow promotion. With a few dealers that was like pulling teeth, some wouldn't even come close because the 05 kod 450's are selling so fast and are in such small supply. The guy that sold me mine sold 3 to a guy the day before for full retail on all three. LOL.
I put in a little more seat time today. The engine feels good, and seems to have some nice power - no it doesn't feel like a tractor. I can't get over how light it feels. The steering and soft ride are awesome. I rode both today and the kodiak is definitely softer riding over bumps than the prairie. On the other hand, it is tippier than the prairie around fast corners. It's clearly not apples to apples though, as the prairie has holeshot atr's, spacers, and a solid rear axle. I also don't think the kodiak was designed to be a sporty quad, like the prairie is.So far I'm very happy with the kodiak, I think it will serve my needs perfectly. It's so easy to steer and ride, I might find myself taking that on easy trail rides and leaving the outlaws on the prairie for mud and deep water.

I have a firm quote of $6200.00 OTD for an 05 450. They have a green one there and a blue one coming in November. I have never owned an ATV. I've been a motocoross/motorcycle guy since I was a kid though. I broke my leg in Aug. (I'm 35) and it has me considering joining the ATV crowd.

That still seems high to me. I paid $6400 out the door for my Grizzly and I bought it in July 2001 just about 3 weeks after they were released when the demand was up and they were hard to find. You should be able to beat that somewhere, but you might have to drive a little ways to do it. Do a dealer search on their website and call around for some prices. Play them against each other.

Andy, the price I paid includes 8% tax, which is higher than some areas. I also agree though, that it's not the greatest deal out there, and of course the disturbing thought went through my head that back in Jan 03 I paid just $400 more for my p650. It's just the best deal around here. I called and played the price game back and forth with a number of dealers within an hour's drive or so. Most of them didn't even want to hear anything below msrp because they're selling them all day for $6199 plus tax, title, prep, and any other charges they tack on. There are better deals out there, if folks are willing to drive. It seems MS has dealers that are really willing to deal if you're in a state nearby.
That said, I'm still very happy and I think price aside, the machine will be perfect for my needs. The fit and finish are very nice IMO. I would have liked a solid handlebar liek the prarie's which is covered in full plastic, but aside from that, I think the fit/finish is better than the kaw. On the other hand, mainenance appears much easier on the kaw.

Yeah I didn't pay tax. Pulled out the old "Farm use" thing for that one. But I do understand about your dealers. I said that I paid $6400 for mine right after it came out, but I failed to mention I had to drive 280 miles one way to get it for that. That could make a difference to a lot of people. Everyone else was quoting me $6999 - $7199 at the time.
